“Modern-Day Edison” Joins SEMICON West Keynote Lineup

Milpitas, CA — Legendary inventor Dean Kamen, regarded by Forbes magazine as a “modern-day Edison,” and creator of the Segway and hun- dreds of other innovations, will share the stage with other elite keynote speakers from industry powerhouses including AMD, Applied Materials, IBM, and Synopsys at SEMICON West. The conference and exhibition is scheduled to take place from July 9 to 11, 2019, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. Registra -

tion for the event is now open. Back by popular demand, the AI

Design Forum returns on July 9 for its second year at SEMICON West. SEMI Americas, the Electronic System Design Alliance and Applied Materials are partnering to stage the event with speakers that represent the entire computing ecosystem. The artificial intelligence (AI) era is wide- ly expected to become the largest of any in industry history, and the speakers will present new approach-

Soldering and Substrate Technology Days

Nuremberg, Germany — Two new technology days at SMTconnect, to be held from May 7 to 9, 2019, in Nuremberg, Germany, are scheduled to host 35 world-class speakers who will offer insight into soldering and substrates. Four seminars and four special sessions will be held in English, focusing on the topics of assembly and joining. “Soldering — Challenges in

Practice,” is the first technology day and will include a 90-minute seminar titled, “Implementation of a Low Melting Point Soldering Alloy in Electronics Assembly.” The second technology day will

continue with two three-hour semi- nars on “Reliability of Solder Joints” and “DFM for Advanced Manufac - turing.”

Held alongside the soldering

seminars, the second technology day, “Substrates — Important Carriers for Components,” will offer informative seminars on substrate technologies. In a 90-minute seminar, participants will learn about recent advancements in thin- and thick-film technology. In addition to the four English

seminars, four special sessions will offer expertise on these topics. The attendance of the sessions is included for seminar participants, as well as entry to the exhibition and a welcome party, which will be held on May 7. Contact: Mesago Messe

es for the future of computing, from materials to systems. The AI Design Forum keynote

lineup includes Dr. Lisa Su, presi- dent and CEO of AMD, Dr. Aart de Geus, cofounder, chairman and co- CEO of Synopsys, and Gary Dick - erson, president and CEO of Applied Materials. Named last year by Fortune as one of the “World’s 50 Greatest Leaders,” Su will describe a growing consensus that 2019 promis- es a historic inflection point for high- performance computing, enabled by new design approaches that go beyond node shrinking. Geus, a lead- ing expert on logic synthesis and software simulation, will address how the industry can benefit from co-

optimization — from silicon to soft- ware — to fulfill the promise of AI. Dickerson, recognized by Barron’s as one of the “World’s Best CEOs,” will discuss how new materials and relat- ed innovations can help accelerate the breakthroughs needed in the AI era of computing by a factor of ten. Keynotes on July 10 include Dr.

Jeff Welser, vice president and lab director, IBM Research — Almaden, Bob Pearson, senior advisor, W2O Group, and Dean Kamen, founder of DEKA Research and Development. Welser will lay out the “Future of Computing,” including the growth of the quantum computing ecosystem, and where microelectronics will find
