What Is History? History is the study of events and people from the past. Anything that has occurred up until this moment in time is history. We study history so that we can understand why things are the way they are now. Why do we speak English and Irish? Why do we live in Ireland? Even personal questions such as ‘Why are your eyes blue/green/brown?’ are part of history. Your surname is part of history. History is not only about kings, queens and army generals. It is also about everyday people like you, the student beside you and even your teacher. If we know our history, we know more about ourselves, the places in which we live and the world around us.
