The IRB Military Council faced great difficulties. Without the guns from the Aud and the support of the Irish Volunteers, it appeared that the rebellion was doomed. Nevertheless, they decided to continue with the rebellion. Even though the leaders knew that the chances of success were small, they hoped that their blood sacrifice (heroic deaths) would inspire future generations to fight for independence.
