Working and studying within the Trust
“I have worked for the Trust as a bank healthcare assistant for just over 18 months, mainly working in child health. The team there are fantasti c; it is clearly a teaching department. I have worked alongside mentors, nurses from diff erent bands, diff erent backgrounds and with diff erent specialiti es, and also alongside student nurses who are just starti ng out. The nurses and doctors have all been so supporti ve, they are more than willing to teach and impart knowledge over any questi ons you may have.
“In April I began studying within the Trust, with my fi rst placement based at Northbrook Ward. Once again, the support was fantasti c. I’ve been able to develop my HCA skills, and also explore areas that I would never have had the opportunity to discover. I’ve observed surgeries in the day-case
theatres where the
surgeons have been very pati ent and explained everything to me.
“All of the staff I’ve worked with, including ward support workers, HCAs, nurses, doctors, surgeons and anaestheti sts, have been fantasti c when it comes to teaching opportuniti es. I also couldn’t have asked for nicer, more supporti ve, or more encouraging mentors to work with on a fi rst placement.”
