Improving teamwork

We have enlisted team specialists, Aston OD, to help us create a group of team coaches tasked with improving teamwork at all levels across the Trust.

Aston OD has a track record of working with NHS and other healthcare providers to improve team performance. Their team worked with 18 of our clinical and non-clinical staff , turning them into team coaches for our Trust.

Our new coaches are now sharing their knowledge with the rest of the organisati on, and we aim for every team to have a session with one of them.

Chief nurse, Donna Green, was one of the team coaches who worked with Aston OD:

“We learned what makes a good team, how best to communicate, and the importance of clarifying roles and responsibiliti es and the positi ve impact this has on pati ent outcomes.

“Research shows that improving teamwork makes a diff erence, not just in terms of job sati sfacti on and staff retenti on, but also pati ent safety.

“We’ve already got a lot of really good teams in our Trust, but just by taking a bit of ti me to look at how we communicate and understand each other’s roles, we can improve even further.”
