Recognising our Community Stars


The fantasti c work being done every day by the team at Countess of Brecknock Hospice was recognised with a special award from the University of Winchester.


Sarah McGaughey, clinical matron at the hospice, att ended


a ceremony at Winchester Cathedral to collect a University of Winchester Community Star Award.


Staff at the hospice were nominated for the award, which highlights and rewards the contributi on of outstanding community organisati ons or individuals across Hampshire, by Dame Mary Fagan, the former Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire and Chairman of the Countess of Brecknock Hospice Trust.


Sarah said: “I was absolutely delighted to accept the award on behalf of the whole team at Countess of Brecknock Hospice, who do a tremendous job, both in the hospice and in the community.


“I’m really proud of the work we do at the hospice and am very excited about


the plans we have to expand our faciliti es at Andover War Memorial Hospital, which will allow us to care for more people, both in the hospice and as outpati ents.


“The ceremony was really lovely and very grand. It was a real honour to be there. I’d like to say a huge thank you to Dame Mary for nominati ng us and for the all of the hard work she and the rest of our fantasti c trustees do for the Hospice.”
