Sample Preparation & Processing Cyclone for Variable Speed Rotor Mill Provides Fine Grinding of Diffi cult Samples

The Fritsch Variable Speed Rotor Mill PULVERISETTE 14 grinds rapidly and effectively soft to medium-hard, brittle as well as fibrous samples. Due to its very efficient air-cooling and the cyclone, even the comminution of difficult to grind samples such as temperature sensitive powder coatings and plastic samples or slightly moist materials such as herbs, leaves or teas are no problem.

The efficient air routing inside the PULVERISETTE 14 and the powerful air vortex within the Fritsch Cyclone cools the sample during grinding, reduces the thermal load of the sample, minimises clogging of the sieve rings while simultaneously increasing the throughput significantly. Also, the cleaning of the mill itself is reduced to a minimum. The airflow inside the Fritsch Cyclone leads the ground sample directly into the screwed-on sample glass. This type of sample discharge is the most convenient, because the ground material is drawn directly into the glass bottle where it can be transported, stored and easily removed for analysis. Thereby, the fine dust is retained in the cyclone by the HEPA dust filter resulting in increased performance for a particularly fast and effective grinding that minimises the thermal load. The PULVERISETTE 14 is the ideal solution for especially heat-sensitive materials, as well as for smooth pre-crushing and fine grinding of hard-brittle to soft, fatty or samples with residual moisture. All of this is available along with simple, contamination-free cleaning effort.

Extremely difficult to grind or acutely temperature-sensitive samples such as styrene, polyester, synthetic resins, foils, PVC, PP and PE can be embrittled by adding liquid nitrogen and afterwards ground with the PULVERISETTE 14.

An extensive range of accessories is available for the Fritsch Centrifugal Mill to help you configure your PULVERISETTE 14 for your specific application. Fritsch experts will gladly advise you.

27938pr@reply-direct.com High Throughput ChIP Assay Plate Launched

Porvair Sciences has announced that it will officially launch Chromatrap 96 HT – an innovative 96-well chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assay plate at Epigenomics of Common Diseases (Wellcome trust, Cambridge UK) from 7th-10th November 2013.

The Chromatrap 96 HT is a new high throughput ChIP microplate based on the novel spin-column ChIP technology. It is essentially 96 separate Chromatrap spin-columns in one device designed to enable researchers to perform up to 96 ChIP experiments in parallel. Assays can be performed either by using hand-held multichannel pipette or by using automated liquid handling robots for even higher throughputs.

The volume and dimensions of the wells in the microplate are very similar to that of the established Chromatrap Spin-columns so the optimised spin- column protocol forms the basis of the approach to performing high throughput ChIP analysis in microplates. Each well has its own porous disc at the bottom in which protein A or protein G has been covalently attached. The functionalised discs have the same chemistry and stoichiometry as the spin columns so all of the reagent volumes and timings can be directly inferred from the spin-tube protocol. The microplate is supplied with a close fitting collection plate to recover the retained chromatins at the elution step.

New Range of Dri-block® Heaters Now Offers Increased Functionality

The new range of digital Dri-block® heaters from Techne offers enhanced levels of choice, flexibility and specification. With a fresh new look and a wide selection of instruments, users can now select two, three and four-block models for high throughput applications, as well as a twin control unit for more complex experiments. The new range offers updated electronics, a brighter, larger LED display, and an innovative

count-down timer function with audible alarm, ensuring timely and precise heating of test-tubes, microcentrifuge tubes, cuvettes, microlitre plates and more.

Techne Dri-block® heaters have been providing laboratories with a safe, dry and precise temperature source for the last 50 years, and the latest models build on this legacy. Users are kept up to date with their experiments with an integrated timer, which can be set in 1 minute intervals (up to 99h 59m) and includes an audible end-of-run alarm. Safety of laboratory workers is paramount, and the aluminium and vented PPD outer casing remains cool to the touch even at the maximum operating temperatures of 100˚C and 200˚C (depending on model). The latest Dri-block® heaters also have a safety shut-off feature, which is temperature adjustable by the user on some models. Each model can accommodate the operator’s personal preference by displaying temperatures in ˚C or ˚F.

For high throughput applications, larger three and four-block models are available, while an additional twin control unit accommodates two blocks with independent digital temperature controls – ideal for multiple users or for applications where samples must be quickly transferred between two temperatures.

“Our new Dri-block® heaters offer users the latest design and technology, improved looks and greater functionality,” said Jim Bratherton, Techne Product Manager at Bibby Scientific. “However, they still retain the features that have made these units so popular over the last 50 years; the widest available range of aluminium block inserts, fast heat up rates to temperatures of 100˚C or 200˚C, and exceptional thermal accuracy and block uniformity, all supported by a market leading 3 year warranty.”

28332pr@reply-direct.com Fast and Convenient Real Time PCR Setup

A new customer testimonial video* from Integra demonstrates how the VIAFLO VOYAGER motorised adjustable spacing pipette can be used to rapidly set up a 384-well qRT-PCR plate for analysis in a ViiA™ 7 Real-Time PCR system (Life Technologies).

In the video demonstration, the VIAFLO VOYAGER simplifies and significantly accelerates the loading of samples into a 384-well plate. The researcher shows how it is routinely possible to pipette 64 samples in triplicate for two genes of interest - all in under 10 minutes!

The VIAFLO VOYAGER is a handheld multichannel pipette featuring motorised adjustable tip spacing; enabling significant productivity gains in applications such as qRT-PCR where loading of samples into microplates has traditionally been a time-consuming task. The VOYAGER pipette features a unique one-handed tip spacing adjustment, GripTip pipette tips that never fall off, low pipette tip attachment / ejection forces, an intuitive touchwheel user interface and a color display. VOYAGER pipettes uniquely combine ease of use with the flexibility to rapidly and comfortably handle large workloads between various lab ware formats.
