by Heather Hobbs Lyonbipole Celebrates Inauguration of Biotech Park


Lyonbiopole, the competitiveness cluster for health in the Rhône-Alpes region, celebrated the launch of Accinov, a new start-up park for biotech companies developing breakthrough technologies, products and services. Selected through a call-for-projects process launched jointly by the DGCIS (General Directorate for Competitiveness, Industry and Services) of the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Employment, alongside the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations development bank, the park was also supported by local government: Greater Lyon and the Rhône-Alpes Regional Council through a State-Region project contract for the period 2007-2013. It provides ready-to-use clean room labs offering bio-safety level (BSL 2 facilities as well as support services for advanced technological activities.


Opened in November Accinov already hosts the core facility for bio-production protein engineering of The BIOASTER Technology research Institute.


After 16 months of construction work, business property developer Nexity has just delivered a 6500 m2 turnkey building of four stories, with 3 bio-production units, 24 BSL-2 clean room labs and offi ces to the owner, SEM Patrimoniale of Greater Lyon.


“We are very proud to have completed this ambitious project for SEM Patrimoniale. It demonstrates the wide range of skills offered by Nexity, from simple offi ce buildings to highly complex sites with labs, clean rooms, bio-production units, cleaning, cooling and storage rooms,” added Alexis Perret, Delegate General Manager, Nexity Immobilier d’Entreprise.


“We are pleased to offer companies a one-of-a-kind platform that complements Lyonbiopole’s other infrastructures, in particular that of the Infectious Diseases Center. Accinov will host fi rms entering the market phase of their development. The aim is to boost the regional ecosystem of such fi rms by giving them a solid basis for development. These industrial-quality turnkey facilities give them a leading edge,” explained Philippe Archinard, President of Lyonbiopole.

SLS Donates to Honduras Charity

Science lesson at Vicente


Nottingham-based Scientifi c Laboratory Supplies (SLS) has donated over £3,000 worth of science equipment to the Children of Honduras Trust as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting charitable causes of interest to staff.


This is the second consignment of equipment provide by SLS since 2011 and will be used by pupils at several secondary colleges in the Valle de Angeles


Jennifer Cox founded the Children of Honduras Trust over 40 years ago, providing emergency relief as well as long term development aid: “The SLS contribution will make a real difference to the science education of secondary pupils, as well as primary healthcare, in the region. The thoughtful offer from the company gives encouragement to teachers who would not otherwise be able to demonstrate scientifi c theory in the class room; and items like disposable gloves provide doctors and nurses with vital protection when treating patients.”
