56 Promotion of High-End Biological Safety Cabinets in the Middle East Market

Telstar will promote its latest range of high quality Class II Biological Safety Cabinets Biovanguard in the Middle East markets after consolidating its position in the European markets. The expansion of high-end Telstar Biovanguard cabinets, which were launched earlier last year, to the Middle East market is in response to the increasing demand for high quality solutions and high performance capability by companies located in this area. Biovanguard will be formally presented at the Arablab exhibition.

Telstar Biovanguard range is designed to provide the highest level of protection for the operator, product and environment by minimising hazards inherent to working with agents assigned to biosafety levels 1, 2 and 3. BioVanguard Series is comprised of two different models: BioVanguard and BioVanguard B. BioVanguard is designed for microbiological research with biological agents and allergens. BioVanguard B (with additional 1st stage HEPA filtration) is designed for high risk microbiological and highly toxic applications, such as the production of cytotoxic drugs.

The Telstar BioVanguard Series has been designed in accordance with the highest standards of quality, biological safety, reliability, ergonomics and usability. Possessing all the features of an ergonomic, high quality and performance cabinet, the BioVanguard Series is designed to offer low sound level, low energy consumption and low maintenance costs. In terms of energy efficiency, this range of cabinets has Green Line EC fans, resulting in lower energy consumption (about 30% less than the average biological safety cabinet).

Biovanguard has an integrated pre-filter to condition the incoming air, thereby reducing the level of particulate matter entering the cabinet, which dramatically extends the life of the HEPA filters. Other particular features of BioVanguard Series are the ergonomic sloped, easy-to-clean sliding/hinged front window, ultra safe multi-shell construction, UV light and gas valve safety control, worktop with V-shaped air slits, integrated drip tray, filter clogging compensation and innovative, unique and patented 4F System (Fast, Friendly and eFFicient) to support replacement of the filters.

Furthermore, downflow velocity can be set up to 0.45 m/s (according to GMP Annex 1 and PIC regulations) and connections are available for particle count sensor, pressure sensor and temperature/relative humidity sensor.

Innovative Technology for the Highly Efficient Enrichment of Free-Circulating DNA

After a two year period of development Analytik Jena has launched an innovative technology to enrich and isolate free-circulating DNA. Free-circulating DNA occurs in plasma, serum, and urine, among other things, but only in small fragments and very low concentrations. In order to isolate them, large sample volumes and large quantities of reagents had been needed until now. The kit developed by the Analytik Jena subsidiary AJ Innuscreen GmbH in Berlin is based on polymer- mediated enrichment (PME) technology. The cell-free DNA of the sample is combined with a polymer and then concentrated. The resulting DNA-polymer complex can be processed by means of a simple DNA extraction method.

With this new technology, Analytik Jena AG is opening up new diagnostic possibilities with enormous potential and various applications. The new enrichment and isolation method is for example used in tumour diagnostics. Circulating cell-free DNA is also gaining increasing significance in pre-natal diagnostics, the diagnosis of metabolic diseases, or sports medicine.

“With far fewer steps, the process is efficient, can be performed very quickly, and reduces the amount of reagents that must be used. Thus isolate free-circulating DNA is provided much easier,” said Alexander Berka, General Manager of the Life Science business unit at Analytik Jena AG.

Hot Air Sterilisers in Accordance with DIN EN ISO 20857:2013

In August 2013, the German edition of EN ISO 20857:2013 on the development, validation and control of the sterilisation of medical products with dry heat was published. The Memmert hot air sterilisers S meet the requirements of the standard valid throughout Europe without any restrictions.

The standard in detail describes the steps mandatory for this method, such as calibration, maintenance, product and process definitions as well as acceptance, functional and performance assessment. In the attachment, the admissible means for compliance with the requirements are explained. Furthermore, the new DIN EN ISO 20857:2013 describes the requirements to the process for depyrogenation of heat-resistant glassware, metal equipment and instruments as well as heat-resistant chemicals, waxes and oils with dry heat at the corresponding denaturing effect.

Memmert hot air sterilisers S comply with the requirements to the appliances and installations without restrictions, as safety in compliance with IEC 61010-1 and IEC 61010-2-040, control and documentation of temperature and sterilisation time, alarm on limit violation, detection of a measuring sensor failure, tamper-proof setpoint definitions, control and monitoring of temperature changes, accuracy of 0.5°C or better, control stability of 1% or better, time control ±1 or better.

Service Ceiling for Modular Laboratories

A quick adaptation of the laboratory by the user is very important these days – and is going to be just as important also in the future. The Waldner service ceiling contains all laboratory services, gases, power supply, IT connections, lighting, air conditioning as well as ventilation. Due to its adaptability it offers an efficient utilisation of the laboratory under the most versatile conditions.

The service ceiling may be used for entire floors and can be arranged without any structural changes. In comparison with other laboratory furniture costs for the conversions of rooms can therefore be considerably reduced.

Due to the division of the service ceiling additional areas may be created. Changes of the installations are executed through the nearest connection blocks. Because of our partition wall system it is possible to set up the office and the laboratory next to one another.

Owing to the supply through one single point the service ceiling offers all required connections, which are distributed throughout any defined surface, to the service columns of the respective workplace. This enables a reduction of costs as Waldner takes on the coordination of the different trade’s works in each room.
