Combined Pathway
This pathway will suit a student who is likely to achieve GCSE Maths and English at grade 4 or above, and who may achieve a range of at least four GCSE grades (or equivalent) at grade 4, 5 and above. It might be that they have a real strength in one or two areas of the curriculum and they might want to read one of these subjects further at university. The pathway offers a blend of practical, applied and traditional academic subjects and students who favour coursework over end of year examinations will find this pathway suits them well. Combined Pathway students might be thinking about going to university, but alternatively they could be considering specialist vocational training. In this pathway students can undertake
the Extended Project and combine A Levels with vocational options, provided they satisfy the entrance criteria. There will be an opportunity to re-sit GCSE Maths and English for students who have not yet achieved a grade 4 or above. This is a highly personalised pathway and students will need to build their own programme depending on their prior achievement, aims and aspirations. The normal pattern would be for students to take an A Level/BTEC combination of three subjects. Those with a bias of vocational courses will be encouraged to engage in sustained work-based learning. Those with a greater weighting of A Levels will be encouraged to take the Extended Project.
