A Level ART AND DESIGN


Overview of subject: A Level Art is broad-based course, which introduces students to a variety of experiences that explore a range of two-dimensional and / or three-dimensional media, processes and techniques. Students use sketchbooks / workbooks / journals to underpin their work and explore drawing for different purposes.


Some students will choose to specialise as the course progresses in one of the areas of study.


Exam board and specification number: AQA / 7241


Course Outline: Component 1 Portfolio – 60%


Students develop work based on an ideas, issues, concepts or themes leading to a finished outcome.


Component 2 External Exam 40% Students respond to a stimulus, provided by AQA, to produce work, which leads to finished outcome.


In both components, students must show evidence of working from two or more disciplines including, fine art, graphic communication, textile design, three-dimensional design and photography.


Why choose the subject? Students who are creative, enjoy exploring new materials, have a curious mind and are interested in the world of art and design will thrive on this course. The course will prepare students well for a range of careers in Art and Design fields.
