A Level CHEMISTRY
Overview of subject: A Level Chemistry attempts to answer the question ‘what is the world made of.’ Chemistry is the science of matter and molecules, and the changes they undergo during chemical reactions. Everything we can see is made of the chemical elements and the molecules that they form. Studying chemistry gives students the opportunity to better understand the world that we live in.
Exam board and specification number: AQA / 7405
Course outline: Organic Chemistry: Alkanes, Alkenes, Alcohols, Organic analysis, Aldehyde and Ketones, Isomerism’s, aromatic chemistry and spectroscopy.
Inorganic Chemistry: Group 2 and Group 7, Period 3 elements and their oxides, transition metals and reactions of ions in aqueous solutions.
Physical Chemistry: Atomic structure, amount of substance, bonding, energetics, kinetics, equilibrium, thermodynamics, electrode potentials and electrochemical cells.
Assessment: 3 exams, 2 hours each
