A Level FRENCH


Overview of subject: A Level French includes the following: • Aspects of French speaking society (eg cyber society, multicultural society, the marginalised)


• Artistic culture in the French speaking world (eg heritage, music, cinema)


• Aspects of political life in the French speaking world (eg political tensions, immigration)


• Study of a text (eg L’Étranger by Camus) and film (eg La Haine) or two texts


• Grammar Exam board and specification number: AQA / 7652


Course outline Paper 1: (40%) Listening, Reading and Writing. Includes translation into English and into French. Paper 2: (30%) Writing. One essay question in French on a set text and one essay question in French on a film (or two questions on two set texts). Paper 3: (30%) Speaking. Discussion of a theme and the Individual Research Project (21-23 minutes).


Why choose the subject? Being fluent in a foreign language is a transferable skill which is increasingly relevant in the global workplace. There are career opportunities in Translating and Interpreting, Journalism, the Civil Service, International Law, Business, Travel/Tourism, Marketing, and many multinational companies for example.
