A Level Pathway


This is an academic pathway for students who are aspiring to enter the Russell Group and other top universities. Students taking this option will have GCSE Maths and English at grade 5 and above and most of their other GCSEs will be at grade 5 and above, especially in the subjects they want to take at A Level. They are likely to be someone who enjoys the challenge of ‘academic’ study and may be hoping to take two of the ‘facilitating subjects’ (Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, History, Languages and English Literature) at A Level.


They might have already decided on a career in a profession such as Law, Medicine, Accountancy, Engineering or Teaching and will be looking forward to studying at one of the top universities in the UK. If they have not yet decided on a career, they may nevertheless be expecting to read an academic subject at a prestigious university. This pathway will suit students who cope well with the demands of terminal examinations. In this pathway, students will take three A Level subjects. They also will be encouraged to undertake the Extended Project. There will be entry criteria for many of the subjects in this pathway.
