A Level PHOTOGRAPHY


Overview of subject: A Level Photography introduces students to a variety of experiences that explore a range of photographic media, techniques and processes as they learn about traditional and new technologies, including the use of both digital photography and wet darkroom processes. Students use sketchbooks to underpin their work.


Exam board and specification number: AQA / 7246


Course outline: Component 1 Portfolio: (60%, NEA) Students develop work based on ideas, issues, concepts or themes leading to a finished outcome, plus written work of 1000 to 3000 words, which supports the practical work.


Component 2 External: (40%, Exam) Students respond to a stimulus, provided by AQA, to independently produce work which leads to a finished outcome.


Students must show evidence of working from one or more of the following: landscape photography, still life photography, documentary photography, fashion photography, post production manipulation and photographic installation.


Why choose the subject? Students who are creative, enjoy exploring new materials and techniques and have an inquisitive eye will enjoy the challenges of this course. Students should seriously consider this course if they plan to follow any careers in Art, Graphic Design, Advertising, Media and Television, Product Design.
