Alpha Rail products play a role in Spider-Man movie
Products from Huthwaite-based metal railings and gates manufacturer Alpha Rail are to take a backstage role in the new Spider-Man film. The company has been
contacted by the film producers Rose Line Productions UK to manufacture and supply pedestrian guardrail which will be used in the background of filming locations for the super hero’s latest adventure movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home, which will be released in 2019. Phil Ball, Sales Director, said:
“We generally get calls from building contractors, architects and landscape designers who want us to manufacture and supply metal railings for landscaping, parks, gardens and highways projects, so it’s always quite exciting when asked to supply something that will be seen on TV. It makes the job more rewarding when staff can see something they’ve manufactured appear on the big screen.”

Two firms fly the flag for trade in the East Midlands
Chamber strategic partner Morningside Pharmaceuticals and Chamber member Hallam Internet have been awarded two of the six UK Board of Trade Awards for Midlands businesses. Presented by the Rt Hon Liam
Fox MP, Secretary of State for International Trade and President of the Board of Trade, the awards recognise businesses that demonstrate exceptional innovation, deliver prosperity for the UK, and champion free trade. The awards are given out on an
annual basis at Board of Trade meetings, as they travel around the UK, during domestic visits and missions, and at an annual business reception. Award recipients are nominated
and selected by civil servants from the Department for International Trade. Speaking about why Morningside
has been chosen to receive the award, Dr Fox said: “As a leader in the medical field, Morningside
Pharmaceuticals is a fantastic advocate for international trade. Having exported to over 100 countries worldwide, the company represents the best of British on the global stage. “I am delighted that my
international economic department is presenting Morningside with a Board of Trade Award.” The judges were particularly
impressed with how Dr Kotecha OBE used “his experience to champion the benefits of International Trade in the Midlands” through his work as a Department for International Trade (DIT) Export Champion. After receiving the award, Dr
Kotecha said: “It’s a great honour to receive this award, particularly as it’s about working within the community to deliver prosperity and to champion free trade. I am very proud to be one of 28 Export Champions for the Midlands, which involves offering expertise and
advice to inspire companies to export and to support existing exporters looking to expand into new markets. “I hope our work will help maximise the potential of the Midlands Engine to drive this region’s exports to new heights, as well as to support businesses with exploring successful trade opportunities around the world.” In recognising Hallam Internet’s
contribution to International Trade, Dr Fox said: “The judging panel was particularly impressed with how Hallam Internet has used its platform to promote exporting across the Midlands Engine, inspiring companies alike to export. “With over 25 years in the digital
industry, founder Susan Hallam also championed equality and diversity throughout the sector. Hallam is a truly inspirational company.” Sales Director Jake Third
accepted the award on behalf of the company. He said: “This award recognises our commitment to sharing our international digital marketing experience and expertise. “And of course, we practice what
Nik Kotecha with Liam Fox MP
we preach. International Trade plays an essential part of Hallam Internet’s growth strategy, and we are exporting our knowledge and experience. We are proud to provide services to international clients including the United Nations, as well as a range of businesses across Europe and North America.” Hallam Internet is also a Midlands Engine Champion, working to present the Midlands as a competitive and compelling offer that is attractive at home and overseas.
