MEMBER NEWS An environment to live, work and learn
For a place of such historic importance, Welbeck has always moved with the times. From its medieval monastic origins, to becoming the epitome of a Victorian working estate, it has reinvented itself through the ages. The Welbeck Project was launched
in 2007 to transform one of the most important collections of heritage buildings in the East Midlands. Rich in history, blessed with glorious architecture and surrounded by the natural beauty of the North Nottinghamshire countryside, it is an environment which sees ideas and creativity flourish. Diversity is central to the Welbeck
Project and it is reflected in the businesses and organisations that can already be found there. The Welbeck Abbey Brewery produces local real ales on the estate, Award Publications exports story and picture books to over 70 countries and Pavilion Rattan designs and produces a wide range of contemporary furniture. Welbeck is a vibrant community.
Already resident on the estate are the award-winning Harley Gallery and Portland Collection for art and craft and The Welbeck Farm Shop, which offers local meats and

produce, including Stichelton cheese, produced in the Collingthwaite Dairy on the estate. Similarly, The Welbeck Bakehouse produces a range of organic breads and pastries, while The Dukeries
Garden Centre provides plants and accessories. The School of Artisan Food
opened its doors in 2009, and was an instant success. It offers a wide range of short courses, from day sessions in subjects as diverse as baking, butchery, cheesemaking and patisserie, to the UK’s first six- month Advanced Diploma in Artisan Baking.
Recent development activity
includes the Cripps wedding barn at Hazel Gap and the Child First nursery in the former Poultry House. All of this adds diversity to the
rural economy and gives local people easy access to a host of new opportunities. It also makes Welbeck a uniquely dynamic environment in which people can work, live, learn and create.
Welbeck is one of the great traditional landed estates, nestled within Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire.
