Vietnam is one of the most vibrant economies in Asia. With a growing domestic market for consumer goods and an ambitious programme for major infrastructure developments - including new urban railway networks, a new international hub airport and the expansion of regional airports - this extensive growth and investment opens up many opportunities for East Midlands-based businesses to explore. Vietnam has made rapid

economic progress over the past 20 years. It continues to develop from a low-cost labour economy to a higher value, high-quality enterprise marketplace, and is forecast to be one of the top ten fastest-growing economies in the next few decades. The country also has a large

young population, with almost 32 million people having access to broadband internet services. Vietnam is a member of ASEAN,

There are particular opportunities in the energy sector, with around £100bn planned investment in the next 20 years to mainly finance the development of power generation, which includes new, traditional and nuclear power plants. This largescale project will require expertise from overseas, including consultancy and equipment, education, regulation and waste management; all of which can be supplied by UK companies. The UK is the largest EU investor

in Vietnam’s education sector and there are a number of British education institutions doing business in Vietnam. However, there is room for many

more due to the size of the market. The UK is among the top five favourite destinations for overseas study with more than 8,000 Vietnamese students and that number is rising by 15% every year. Curricular reform, teaching and
