Elastacloud wins new business with Enscite support
Gary Hunter (pictured), Head of Business Development at Elastacloud Ltd talks to us about how a University of Derby run project, Enscite, has opened doors to networks and new business development opportunities.
The Company Elastacloud is a leading Data Science and Cloud consultancy based in Nottingham.
What they do The company are leaders in Advanced Analytics and are paving the way for cutting edge developments in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, but are also unparalleled in the fields of Azure Architecture, Power BI, SQL, R and Python. The company enables businesses to use machines to carry out tasks more smartly but also to enable the machines to learn for themselves.
The Challenge As Elastacloud are leading the way in this sector they recognised that they would need to identify early adopters who would be interested in their product offer. They sought support from the ERDF funded Enscite project at the University of Derby.
Gary Hunter explained how it worked. “They spent time talking to us about our business, our unique proposition and looking at our potential customers in the D2N2 area and nationwide”
The Solution “Support was provided from Enscite and the University of Derby to; complete a SWOT analysis, summarise our competitive advantage, align that to various vertical target markets and
16 business network October 2018
provide an explanation as to why the companies identified should be our priority targets.
“A key recommendation from the work was that we join some specific industry associations which would allow us to network with influencers in each of those vertical markets and to be involved in business transformation discussions. Joining the associations allowed us to understand the sector and the drivers within that sector e.g. we gained an understanding of the rail sector and that they were interested in how to improve the performance of trains. Trains can run for 25 years and they don’t give much data so they may be refurbed every year unnecessarily. By analysing data we can optimise trains performance and minimise costs. Joining the recommended associations and networking within them gave us a real business insight as to how to position ourselves”.
The Outcome “The work has enabled us to write up strategic plans to target these vertical sectors. As a result we have targeted companies in an effective and productive manner.
“The networking Enscite enabled led directly to a £38k project and in addition
we are in the process of having CEO board level discussions with a number of companies.
“The process was quick and efficient. We did not have to spend long on it and the networking and the business it has generated has been a resounding success.
“An introduction by them to the Rail Forum network also helped us connect with Porterbrook Leasing who we have since formed a strategic partnership with”.
