FAI Visit To Corkbeg AFC – August 2018 What

Corkbeg Reports to

meet the throng, were fabulous af-

ternoon last Monday in Whitegate! No sooner had the FAI contingent set foot inside the gates of our hallowed turf, the clouds overhead

dispersed and

glorious sunshine came bursting through for the duration of the visit. It was that kind of day. The FAI were in Cork county celebrating their ‘’Festival

Of

former Irish internationals & Premier League stars Stephen Hunt & Stephen Kelly, current Irish wom- ens internationals Amber Barrett & Cork City goal- keeper Amanda Budden and current Ireland U-19 manager Tom Mohan. And they were given a rap- turous welcome. We were also delighted with the attendance of Cork AUL chairman Ted O Mahony & Cork AUL Secretary Martin Conlon. The FAI contingent

week and were paying a number of courtesy visits to clubs throughout Cork county. Last Monday af- ternoon, they rolled into Whitegate to visit Corkbeg and a huge crowd turned out on a Monday after- noon to welcome them & cheer them on. FAI Chief Executive

John Delaney headed the group, with FAI Presi- dent Tony Fitzgerald ac- companying him. Also in

were given a tour of the facilities in Corkbeg and speeches were made by Tony Fitzgerald, John De- laney and Corkbeg chair- man Jim Reaney. The FAI recognised the con- tribution of Terry Dunne towards football in East Cork and reminded the large

crowd that Terry

would be receiving an FAI Award for services to foot- ball at a gala dinner on the following Friday night in Cork City. They also pre- sented Corkbeg AFC with a cheque for 5,000 euros to

develop facilities in White- gate, goalposts to replace the existing ones and a number of tickets for the schoolboys section to up- coming internationals. FAI President

Fitzgerald presented

Tony Jim

Reaney with a plaque to recognise the visit today and Corkbeg presented the FAI group with large baskets of Rostellan Choc- olate. This may have been the highlight of the day, as 3 year old Tom Tom Ca- hill, who has twice beaten cancer, presented John Delaney with his basket of chocolate. Evan Crowley presented Tony Fitzger- ald with the other basket. Corkbeg also used the oc- casion to launch their 50th anniversary commemo- rative booklet ‘’50 Shades Of Blue’’......a brief histo- ry of Corkbeg AFC. Thanks to

Anthony

Oosthuizen for the loan of the PA system on the day. Thanks to Flanagan Print for

the signage, posters

and the publication of our booklet in time for the vis- it. Big thanks to everybody Continued on next page
