Sports Midleton Salvage A Draw With Ballincollig

Midleton 3-11 Ballincollig 1-17

Midleton salvaged a

draw in this Intermediate Hurling Round 3 game played at

the splendid

Eire Og complex in Ov- ens last Friday night when a 62nd

minute goal from

Garran Manley earned Midleton a share of the spoils against Ballincollig, with the sides now having to meet again to see who makes it into round 4. Midleton began this

contest well and while Ian Coughlan had the open- ing point for Ballincollig, Ian Kennefick cut through for a goal for Midleton. Ross O’Regan and Peter Dowling added points, but Cian Dorgan and David Bowen kept Ballincollig in touch. Kian Farmer had another point for Midle- ton, but they would score just one further point from a Garran Manley free in

the 17th minute as Ball-

incollig took over. Strong play from Ian Jennings, Karl Walsh, Peter O’Neill and Cian Dorgan saw Ballincollig

hit the front

with a goal from Karl Walsh and with Dorgan in superb form from free’s Ballincollig led by 1-10 to 1-4 at the interval. Midleton were find-

ing the going tough and with Cian Dorgan and Sean Walsh landing early points, Ballincollig were eight

points clear and

looking like winners. Gar- ran Manley pointed twice from free’s and added an-

other from play while Pe- ter Dowling also pointed as Midleton began their comeback.

They

aided by the dismissal of Colin Moore for a 2nd low card in the 42nd

were yel-

min-

ute for a careless pull and with Jake Hegarty and Garran Manley pointing the lead was now back to four points with Ballincol- lig ahead by 1-14 to 1-10 with just over ten minutes remaining.

Ballincollig upped their

game winning a few free’s and with Cian Dorgan in superb form, Ballincol- lig

kept their noses in

front. A well taken goal from Midleton sub Kevin Finn made it a one point game, but Dorgan kept Ballincollig in front and while

had a great

Kieran Mulcahy Midleton

point, two further Dor- gan free’s left

Midleton

trailing by three points as normal time elapsed. Two minutes into injury time Garran Manley pounced for the equalising goal as he fired low across Conor Kinsella to bring the sides level. Midleton did have one late chance to snatch a winner but the shot went wide and so the sides will

have to meet again. Over- all a draw was probably a fair result but Midleton did not play as well as they can so they will expect to improve next time out. Midleton: G Manley
