60 East Cork travelled
Our minor footballers to
Shanagarry
on Monday evening last for their fourth game in the league, and came away with a victory, their third in a row, to aid preparations for championship against Fr. O’Neills which will be played on Thursday week, August 30th
. Our hosts
were the better team for the opening ten minutes but their failure to turn possession into scores hurt them once our boys settled and got into
the game.
Adrian Galvin’s cool pen- alty on ten minutes was the opening score, with only one point (Ciaran O’Ro- urke) added by the quarter hour mark. St. Colman’s had many chances to score (goals and points) but a combination of poor shooting and excellent defending and saves by Brian Murphy, Dan Lu- cey and Owen Cosgrove meant they didn’t score until the 25th
Hennessy’s lobbed
minute. Olin goal
on 29 minutes gave us a nice cushion at half time – 2-6 to 0-2 – which was probably not reflective of the overall pattern of the game. The second half saw us add further points from Paul
Delaney (his
second) and Rob Sinclair before Oisin McCarthy and Richie Landers add- ed 1-1 each. St. Colman’s never gave up and three fi- nal quarter goals made the
finish more exciting, but we held on for a deserved victory. Team:
Brian Murphy,
Kieran Daly, Dan Lucey, Owen Cosgrove, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Barry Moth- erway, David Collins, Dara Motherway, Olin Hen- nessy, Christian Coughlan, Adrian Galvin, Darragh O’Connor, Paul Delaney, Ciaran
O’Rourke, Rob
Sinclair. Subs: Andrew Foley, Dylan Hogan, Ci- aran Leahy, George Sin- clair, Danny Cunningham, Oisin McCarthy, Richie Landers, Daniel Doherty, Tony McCarthy, George Walsh.
FRIENDS
FOREVER BLITZ IN CARLOW Killeagh Under 8’s, Un-
der 10’s and Under 12’s made the journey north to Ballinkillen in Co. Car- low to participate in the ‘Friends Forever’ hurling tournament on Sunday 12th
August. Our Under
8s had a great day out on their ‘big trip’, while our Under10s and Under 12 also did really well. The Under 10 tournament was run off as a four-team league. The other teams in our group were the hosts (Ballinkillen), Cuala from Dublin and the Black and Whites from Kilkenny. The lads played really well from the start and were comfortable
winners in
each of their three games to win the tournament. A delighted
Cormac Del-
aney accepted the plaque on behalf of the team. The panel members who travelled on the day were: Andrew
Brenner, Ben
Geary, Billy Guerin, Cal- lum Power, Cayden Hyde, Cormac Deane, Cormac Delaney, John Farquhar, Rian O’Connor, Ryan Murphy, Seanan McDon- nell. The Under 12s won
each of their three match- es and Sean Meade was selected as Player of the Tournament. Panel: Ethan O’Driscoll, Fionn Murphy, Oran Cunningham, Jamie Hyde, Conor Burns, Colm Cowhig, Ben Walsh, Barry Walsh, Sean Meade, Sean Lynch, Cathal

FÉ 10 FOOTBALL IN DUNGARVAN Killeagh
Under 10’s
travelled to Dungarvan on 18th
August to participate
in the Dungarvan GAA Football tournament. The lads continued their great form by emerging as the tournament
winners.
There were 16 teams in the competition, the for- mat was four mini league groups of four playing off in a round robin basis, with the winners of each group advancing to the semi fi-

nals. We were drawn in the same group as The Nire, Brickey Rangers and St. Olivers. The lads won all three games convincingly to qualify as group win- ners. This meant we faced Stradbally in the semi final. We played with a strong breeze in the first half and kicked some great scores to put us in a commanding position at half time. The lads kept up the work rate in the second half to ad- vance to the Final. Aghada defeated Clon-
mel in the other semi final to provide our opposition in the all-Cork final. We started well and kicked a few great points. Aghada attacked and struck for a goal but credit to the lads they did not let it affect them. Two great goals just before half time saw us lead at the break. In the second half Aghada came at us early but a solid defen- sive effort allied to superb combination play around the
middle and upfront
saw us take control. Four further goals followed to see us run out comfortable winners at the end. A de- lighted Patrick Dineen ac- cepted the cup afterwards on behalf of the
team. This was a great effort by a real- ly dedicated group of lads to emerge victorious out of 16 teams. They have given us great entertainment all summer and thanks to all the parents who travelled
to support us once again. Also, thanks to Dungarvan for organising such a great competition. Squad:
rty, Andrew Power, Cormac
Alex Foga- Brenner,
Ben Geary, Billy Guerin, Callum
Deane, Cormac Del- aney, Daniel Geary, John Farquhar, Patrick Dineen, Rian Lane, Rian O’Con- nor, Ryan Murphy, Sean O’Leary, Seanan McDon- nell.

KILLEAGH CAMOGIE - KILLEAGH-ITA’S JU- VENILE GAA MONTHLY WALK
NO. 31 – LISMORE AND THE TOWERS, BALLYSAGGART Our walking group continues to grow,
ley, years of slow growing undone in minutes. Next month we head for our second September trek to the Kingdom. This year, it’s not Carrauntoohill as it was in 2017, but the spec- tacular climb to the top of Torc Mountain. This is not a steep climb and there is a walking track for much of the mountain, yet it still re- quires a reasonable degree of fitness. As always, text 085-7540973 if you’d like to join us.
with
new walkers and some returning walkers keep- ing the group numbers up to 20 once again. This month’s walk was slightly less challenging than our trek up Knockmealdown, but no less interesting or beautiful, with less energy expended. The Towers in Ballysaggart is a hidden gem in this corner of the Déise, and the
HERITAGE TRAIL IN KILLEAGH Well done to the Kil- leagh-Inch Historical Group, led by Paudie Lee and Neville Dent, who had a double event on Satur- day last. Three beautiful signs have been erected in the village some areas
indicating of interest informa-
tive signage gives a good background to the stories behind the twin edifices of the gate lodges to the east and the towers / folly on the western side of the estate. Sadly, the surround- ing woodland has seen much devestation from Storm Ophelia, with huge trees uprooted in the val-
for locals and for visitors. One is in the old medie- val graveyard, one by the river Dissour, and one at the entrance to Glenbower Woods, and each are well worth investigating. Paudie and Neville brought a group of about 20 on a tour of the village on Sat- urday afternoon last and all present left much more informed about their local area. Thank you Paudie and Neville and to all in- volved in the Killeagh-Inch Historical Group.
