16 Annual
Collection in Youghal for Cork ARC
Cork ARC’s annual Flag
Day Collection in Youghal will take place on Thurs- day 23 August, 2018.
All collectors are volun-
teers, meaning that 100% of donations received will directly fund the services of Cork ARC whose ser- vice in Youghal is open each Wednesday to sup- port cancer patients and their families in East Cork and West Waterford, free of charge. Cork ARC offers a free,
community based service for all those who have been affected by cancer. Their service is nurse led, supported by a team of
volunteer
apists and counsellors, all trained
listeners, ther- and accredited.
Cork ARC’s support ser- vice is professional and confidential. Colette Cahill and her
team of trained volunteer listeners and therapists welcome
anyone affect-
ed by cancer (patient or family member) to drop in or telephone without an appointment, to talk in confidence with a trained volunteer
listener, each
Wednesday between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm. Thera- peutic massage, reflexol- ogy, counselling and art therapy are all offered in complement to the medi-
cal model, so as to alleviate the stress associated with a cancer diagnosis. Acknowledging
the
ethos of volunteering be- ing the driving force be- hind the charity’s work in the community, Colette Cahill, Community Can- cer Support Co-ordinator for Cork ARC in Youghal says, “As all
of the ser-
vices at Cork ARC are supported by a large vol- unteer base, we hope that our
volunteer collectors’
generosity of spirit will be rewarded by a warm re- ception from the people of Youghal at our annual Flag Day.”
