LISGOOLD Killeagh are
through to the semi-fi- nal of the East Cork Oil JAHC following a solid victory over
in
Castlelyons on Sunday evening, where both Cash- man brothers John going forward and Kieran in defence were just magnif- icent. It certainly was a fast and furious opening half of hurling with Killeagh just like their
previous
match getting two points inside the opening minute through Dan Landers. John Cronin replied for Lisgoold and then Landers landed his third score from play on the fourth minute. Suddenly Lisgoold sprung into life with four unanswered
points, two

from John Cashman and white flags raised by Mau- rice O’Connell and Jack Ryan.
Killeagh through Kevin
Fennelly got a point back from play, then the sides exchanged two further points each before Landers was in again for Killeagh leaving the bare minimum between the sides on the 21st
minute. other
Then Lisgoold put an- three
unanswered
points on the scoreboard to lead it by four, before Fennelly and Aaron Walsh pointed to reduce the mar- gin to just two points, but it was Lisgoold’s Kieran Cashman who had the fi- nal say with a great score to

was always going to be tough for Killeagh to chal- lenge. But taker nothing away
from Lisgoold who were clinical at every opportu- nity and four early points, three from John Cashman and a score from his broth- er Kieran set the trend for the remainder. Killeagh had to rely on Dan Landers for remain- der of their scores, where- as Lisgoold just kept piling on the pressure and when John Cashman hit the net with a great goal on the 53rd
minute, there is no
question but Lisgoold are strong contenders for the ‘Jamesey Kelleher Cup’.

Junior Round Up East Cork JAHC. Lisgoold 1-20 v 0-15 Killeagh. Castlelyons was the setting
for this quarter-final clash in the East Cork Junior A com- petition on Sunday evening. Played in dry, calm conditions, this game would decide who faced the winners of Carrig na bhFear and St. Itas in the semi-final.
John Cronin, opened the scoring in this game with a fine point on the right touch- line before Killeagh responded with 3 points on the trot with sharpshooting Dan Landers in particular posing problems in the full-forward line. Ciaran Cronin’s important
intercep-
tion in the early exchanges lim- ited the damage when it looked like Killeagh was in for an ear- ly goal. Shortly after, Ciaran picked out Maurice O’Connell with a short puck out and he shrugged off a few challeng- es and pointed to make it 0-3 v 0-2. attempt to limit Cronin and the sharpshooter Cashman who was playing in a wide role. As the game settled down,
Kieran Cashman in particu- lar began to dominate on the 50, dropping deep to prevent ball landing in front of the Lisgoold square. On gathering possession, he set
the attack
on the front foot with accu- rate passes to the half forward line. Andrew O’Donovan too was prominent in the early ex- changes, and went on to have his best championship display. On 15 minutes, John Cash- man caught a high ball and offloaded to John Cronin who bore down on goal but was

denied by a brave save by the Killeagh goalkeeper. Despite this setback, Lisgoold were get- ting on top, with further points from Jack Ryan, John Cronin and John Cashman. Kieran Cashman scored an inspira- tional late first half point, but Killeagh remained in the game at half-time on a 0-11 to 0-08 score line.
Lisgoold started the second
half much brighter and an early red card to a Killeagh defender was ultimately de- cisive in this contest. After 14 second-half minutes, the score was 0-16 v 0-09 with John Cashman continuing to be ac- curate from frees and play. On 20 minutes, Killeagh was dealt a double-blow when a great full
length save from Ciaran
denied a certain goal before John Cashman goaled at the other end. Killeagh battled until the end, but never looked like getting back into the game from this point. Preparations now turn to the semi-final, which should be played on the weekend of 31-August. Team: C. Cronin, A.
O’Donovan, C. Cashman, P O’Mahony, C. Healy, K. Cashman (0-2), P. Leahy, Caoimhan O’Shea J. Cronin (0-5), K. Mulcahy, J. Ryan (0-2), C. Scannell, C. O’Do- novan, J. Cashman (1-10, 0-5 frees), M. Juvenile Round-Up It was a very busy week for
the juvenile club on the hurl- ing front. On Monday 13-Aug,
• Lisgoold V Killagh
our U18 hurlers had a com- prehensive 5-16 v 3-08 win over Aghada in the East Minor B1 championship. On Wed-15 Aug, our U14 hurlers lost out to Killeagh in the U14 Premier 2A championship. On Fri-17 Aug, our U16 hurlers lost out to a very good Ballinora side in the U16A hurling champion- ship on a score line of 2-17 v 5-15. The lads did very well to make a spirited comeback af- ter conceding 4 first half goals, and almost pulled it off in the end.
Lisgoold Lotto Jackpot of €20,000 remains up for grabs! The Lisgoold Lotto Draw
jackpot remains up for grabs. The numbers are posted in the club’s What’s App group every week.
Condolences The club extends condo-
lences to the family of the late Michael ‘Flanagan’ Cahill who sadly passed away recently. Flanagan played a big part in Lisgoold’s successful 1952 side and by all accounts was talent- ed hurler and as required at the time, a tough competitor, who could look after himself on the field.
Best wishes to the Cork U21 hurlers We wish the Cork U21
hurlers, in particular clubman Liam O’Shea, the best of luck in the All-Ireland final against Tipperary next weekend.
