In a quasi- nostalgic re-

turn to the “Variety Con- cert” of bygone days, the Killeagh Hall hosted a fundraising event last Fri- day night to help secure funds for the coming year. Laughter and song filled the walls of

this 67 year

old community centre as a glittering array of artistes of the highest calibre gath- ered from far and near to perform for this worthy cause.

community centre is devoid of its core. Loyal supporters were

treated to a feast of enter- tainment. Dancers, accompanied

by Cormac Lynch, Bal- lymacoda, set

the pro- A village without a

gramme alight with their nimble feet, while local Pa- varotti in the guise of Dan Sexton, Killeagh, surpassed himself with his renditions of ‘On the Street where you live’ and ‘The Miller’s Daughter’. The Wizard of Oz’ most famous song ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’ was en- acted to perfection by Ava Hennessy from Killeagh, with costume

with the iconic leaving profes-

son of

sionals in the shade, while Killeagh’s Anna Sheehan’s melodic flute playing was equalled by her own beau- tiful sweet singing of ‘Fare- well to Carlingford’. Anne Healy, Chairper- the Midleton Writ-

ers’ Group regaled in de- scriptive comedic terms in ‘The Kings New Clothes’ aspects of Masterchef- the delights of wagyu beef and the blind serving of wine, not to mention the audi- ence’s great

appreciation

of her forgetfulness of not including the yeast in the bread in her piece entitled ‘Here’s what I left Out’. Jim

Tait, in his soothing rhym- ing poetic style expounded the art of ‘Crabbing’ and his ‘Prognosis’ where the joy of seasons where nature provides, were velvet to the ears of the enraptured au- dience. Emma Clohessy’s very clever crafting of her villanelle, ‘Rafters and Straw Strings’ left her audi- ence in no doubt as to her talented ability with words. Her ‘Ink Wells and Pencil Boxes’ was nostalgia at its best along with her caress- ing words in ‘A pocket full of Love’. ‘Nella Fantasia’ and ‘The Holy City’ were sung by Killeagh Soprano, Geral- dine Landers. This was a

refined and defining perfor- mance of demanding com- positions requiring great vocal ability. Her singing demonstrated musicality, powerful projection and perfection and the raptur- ous applause mirrored this performance. One was transported to with Kil-

leagh’s answer to Andre Rieu in the person of Jen- nefer O’Keeffe. Such deep tones and finger dexterity in her violin solo ‘El Choclo’, were beautifully contrasted by the smouldering roman- tic strains of ‘Parla Piu Pi- ano,’ love theme from ‘The Godfather’. The

audience were treated to

clarity and ability to deliver, had the audience in stitch- es and demanding more of the same. The audience also joined

with Youghal Local Radio presenter Don Mulcahy from Youghal, in his superb and entertaining rendition of ‘I close my eyes’ and his joy of performing was pal- pable.

Charlie McAlister from Midleton, left his audience

in no doubt as to why he is considered a brilliant showman and seasoned performer. Great

favour-

ites such as ‘If I loved you’ and ‘You’ll never walk alone’ from Carousel were superbly executed while ‘Sunshine of your Smile’ and ‘Girls were made to love and kiss’ just further demonstrated a great voice in full technical command. In attendance, Killeagh Hall Chairperson, stalwart Sean Murphy, closed pro- ceedings and thanked both artistes and performers for their support.
