The stunning, histor- cocooned in

the Town Walls, were jam packed with visi-

tors all day Sunday for Youghal’s 12th

thoroughly Annu-

al Medieval Festival. Adults and children alike were

entertained by a ring of tents, stalls, and activities on show. Children and parents were sitting cross legged painting shields and swords ahead of the

epic battles that would take place in local gar- dens around the town in the last two weeks before school starts.

Other tents demon-

strated skills and trades in the Medieval Village and used in the locality in a time long gone were

tool making, weapon- ry, apothecary, ye olde cookery, hair braiding and styling. Plenty lo- cal crafts of present day were

also on display

including a stall from Brigid Shelley Gallery in Ardmore. Brigid paints wonderful cow portraits and farming scenes that

can be bought on canvas, mugs, trays and various other materials. Other craft

displays included

jewellery and semi-pre- cious stones made into beautiful pieces, some- thing to suit all tastes from the exquisitely del- icate stones to Viking in- spired designs in bronze

and sterling silver. Sand art, music, mag-

ic, history, battles, weap- ons, birds of prey, food and drink all played a part in the making of this fantastic free family event

celebrating Na-

tional Heritage Week. Cork County Coun-

cil have announced that the

shortlisted in the

festival has been 15th

Annual Chambers Ire- land Excellence in Local Government

Awards!

Congratulations to all involved on a wonder- ful weekend celebrating Youghal’s Ancient Her- itage.
