August 2018 Cork County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship

Kilworth 4-16 Aghada 1-10

this year’s Cork Coun- ty Premier

Aghada bowed out of Intermediate

Hurling Championship when Kilworth had a de- serving victory in round 2 at Ballynoe on Saturday evening

last. Kilworth

were worthy winners with Noel McNamara unerr- ing from placed balls over the hour and the omens were not looking good for Aghada when they were reduced to 14 men as half time loomed. The opening ten min-

utes were even enough as both sides traded points with the sides level on three points apiece. Kil- worth

were decisive scores for the Avondhu men. Ronan Kennedy pulled a point back for Aghada but Mc- Namara was on target from play when he bagged a second goal for Kilworth on 21 minutes. Calamity struck the East Cork side on 28 minutes

as Billy

Hennessy was adjudged to have committed an off the ball foul on Kilworth’s Liam Whelan and received his marching orders. Will Leahy finished off the half with a pointed free to let the halftime score 2-6 to 0-5 in Kilworth’s favour. On the resumption, Will Leahy converted

anoth- then upped their

game and returned with 1-3 in six minutes to seize control of proceedings. McNamara pointed twice from frees and a brilliant goal from Eoin Carey, who soloed through the Agha- da defence, and a third point from the roving and influential Paddy Moakley

er free with a point but Kilworth came storming back, aided by a strength- ening wind, as Jamie Shee- han, McNamara, and Will Condon contributed four points between them to push them further ahead. It was all Kilworth at this stage of the game as Pad- dy Moakley struck two

great points and McNa- mara punished some silly fouls. Goal number three by sub, Jeromy Saich, put the game beyond rescue on the 48th

minute. Agha-

da replied with two points but Moakley killed off the game two minutes later as he cut across from the cor- ner and his shot was de- flected into an empty net. Fair dues to Aghada they kept going but it was Kil- worth who found the scor- ing easier as McNamara, Whelan and Condon kept using the

wind advan-

tage by tacking on points. Aghada did get through when sub Brian Morrissey raised their only green flag as the clock ticked to full time.
