Fr O’Neill’s Camogie
Fr O’Neills rock against St Finbarrs Fr O’Neills girls trav-
elled to St Finbarr’s for Minor League on Tuesday last 26th
April and came
away with an unbelievable victory against a strong Barr’s team. When we eventually got the jerseys after they did a tour of cork city that included a visit to St Finbarr’s cathe- dral, we took to the field. A mixture of new girls
to this age group with seasoned campaigners we fielded an experimental
lineout not knowing what to expect. All we asked of the girls was to per- form, and did they what. From Tirna in goals, first time between the posts, her puck outs were the launching pad for wave af- ter wave of attacks on the opposition’s backline. The game started with
the Barr’s parked in our side of the pitch and in- side the first 10 mins were 3 points to the good, but only for our rear guard stewards Emily, Anita, and Mary we could have been down a few goals. They hunted and harried and made life very diffi- cult
for the opposition’s forward line. After the
initial 10mins we started to settle into the game, as in fairness to the girls they had to get accustomed to their new positions as it was the first time for some in their new role. We had backs playing forward and forwards playing back, even goal keepers playing outfield. The
two stormed into the
and took command of the centerfield and held it for the rest of the game. On our first venture into their back line the ball found Alison’s hand and with a quick turn send over a great point. This gave the girls confidence and they lifted their game. Follow-
ing this Aoife H send an unbelievable cross field ball onto the path of the tenacious
Deirdre who
Aoife’s game
caught the ball in mid- flight and drove on to put over an incredible score. The Barr’s from the puck out responded with a fine taken point. We took con- trol for the last 10 mins of the half which started with the puck out from Tirna landing in front of Kayla who turned the half back and went on one

and made it very diffi- cult for the Barr’s girls to clear their lines. Keri and Kayla were latching on to Tirna’s puck outs and were the torn in the side for the Barr’s Girls. We were buzzing at half time, we were well in control of the game, on top all over the pitch. Kelly Anne and Deirdre were flying in the half back line and our full back line solid as a rock. Score at half time 4:3 to
of her tormenting solo runs and driving the ball like a rocket past the Barr’s goalkeeper. This was followed quickly by a well taken Alision goal who worked tirelessly for the hour. Our two young- est players Katie, and Sa- rah Kate who normally play in the back line used their defensive experience
5 points. The second half was a tighter affair with the Barrs bring in a couple of fresh legs they tore at us and with their first attack had the ball in the back of our net. Soon after they had another one plus a few fine taken scores. The girls had to dig deep and half way through Kayla had the ball in the net again, for her third goal of the

Whitechurch 2-13 v Fr. O’Neills 3-9 U10 Hurling: St. Col- mans had a very narrow win over O’Neills but our boys did excellent consid- ering that O’Neills had to supplement the Colmans team with some of our lads so that they could make up the numbers.. Maybe our lads tried a bit too hard on the other team.

night, this was followed by a great
point from
Kelly Anne who moved to centre forward for a brief period. That settled the nerves again but the Barrs to their credit kept coming at us and it was a cracking game, end to end stuff. With 5 mins to go Kayla on one of her runs found Katie at the edge of the square who slotted the ball into the back of the net. This settled the score and closed the game. Final Score: Fr O’Neills
