improvements in terms of
rate On Saturday morning
both skill and work from our previous
outings. What was most impressive on the
day
however was the will- ingness of players to communicate with each other on the field, at times encouraging, mo- tivating and even con- soling teammates when needed. Some real lead- ers emerged on the day, encouraging signs for the future.
A special word of
thanks also to John Burke and his fellow Bishops- town Fe 9 coaches for ac- commodating us at such short notice. Our panel on the day
was: Hugh Barry, Ryan Barry, Donncha But- ler, Charlie Cahill, Finn Cahill, Braden Dunlea, Conor Fleming, Ethan Foley, Adam Groarke, Al- fie Hennessy, Nojus Jurci- ukonis, Ian Lambe, Kevin Lester, Ronan Mackessy, Charlie McCarthy, Dylan McInerney, Daniel Molo- ney, Ciaran Mulligan, Finn Murray, Ciaran O’ Brien, Robin O’ Brien, Daniel O’ Connell, Ca- thal O’ Neill, Aidan O’ Regan, Sean O’ Regan, Patrick Spelmanand Alex Wilson.
Fe 11
last, we had a very busy but rewarding morning. This week proved a chal- lenge because of a last minute invite to play in the John Kerins Fé 11 Football Tournament. This was the first time that Midleton have ever been invited to this tour- nament therefore we had to split the group for two different
venues. This
proved challenging but worth all the phone calls !!!! The
frustration of
pitch closures and bad weather was all forgot- ten about when our boys took to the field against Glanmire on a beauti- ful sunny day. From the off the lads played some brilliant football, when needed they got stuck in and they didn’t allow the opposing team any space to play. As a result of the great teamwork we came away from Glanmire with two fantastic wins. Earli- er in the day we travelled to Douglas for the John Kerins Tournament. We were pitted against
the
West Cork Kingpins Cas- tlehaven , local rivals Er- ins Own and seven time winners Douglas. We had superb win against Erin’s Own and a nail biting but we’ll deserved win against Castlehaven.
We also played Douglas in the group losing nar- rowly. This again was a fantastic team effort, also with some brilliant individual performances. This justifies our invite and I hope it continues for many years ahead. As a result of getting two wins, we now have quali- fied for the 1/4 Finals in June.
All this would not be
achieved but for the boys commitment to training each week. Well done again lads
for making us as coach- es very proud of what ye achieved this week.
Fe 12 On Saturday last we
visited Togher to play our traditional rivals the Barrs in the hurling league. Conditions were cold but thankfully dry we began with a strong breeze at our backs and started brightly causing problems for the Barrs defence. Daniel Gardes 65 opened the scoring followed by a well tak- en goal scored by Luca Brodkorb after some excellent
hooking and
blocking from our for- wards. The Barrs replied with two excellent points from play, despite a num- ber of good opportunities
that is the way the first half
half
the second half with some very strong from the excellent
ended. We began play
back line of Ben Fitzpat- rick (captain) Cathraigh Cronin and Connor Wil- liams. We rattled off two quick scores from Jack Foley and Peter Barrett, the Barrs responded with two points to leave the match delicately poised as we entered the home straight Daniels Garde’s pointed free gave us some breathing space and we managed to hold out as the Barrs threw the kitchen sink at us in the closing minutes, a later Fionn Kelly clearance epitomised the
spirit
shown by the lads on the day. Overall it was a very good team performance that earned us the win. We finished on a score line of St Finbarrs 0.04 v Midleton 1.05. Thanks to all the parents for their travelling support. We have one more hurling match this week before we return to the big ball.
Fe 13 Last Thursday evening
weather wise was damp and dirty but it was the opposite on the pitch as the Magpies had a Pre- mier 1 home League
game against Car- rigtwohill. We got off to a great start with two unanswered
frees from
Darragh Fitzgerald and two points from play from Tadhg Bohane which saw us settle well. However Carrigtwohill came back into the game scoring three well
taken
points. Our backs worked extremely hard to keep their danger men at bay with Darragh Scanlon and Alex Moloney stick- ing to the opposition like glue. A quick thinking Cian
Lambe struck for a goal on the
stroke in of half
time leaving a score line of 1-04 to 0-04. Car- rigtwohill came out fight- ing
the second half
and put over some fine scores, Zak Smith pulled off a great save to keep us in touch. Tadhg Bo- hane got the vital score of
the game hitting the
Carrig net with five min- utes to go. This was a great
game of hurling
with some excellent team work from all of the pan- el. Great credit is due to both teams in the sport- ing manner in which the match was played. Final score Midleton
2-07 v Carrigtwohill 1-08. The

Fe 15 The first round of the
P1 Hurling Champion- ship saw us play Youghal at home on Sunday April 22nd
tionally well against
. We played excep- a
well-organised Youghal outfit. The real differ- ence on the night was the conversion rate
that we
achieved with our shots on target. The
accuracy from
both placed balls and play gave the Magpies a comfortable lead at times during the game. But
Youghal fought for every ball and made this a most enjoyable game. Final Score: Midleton 3-19 v Youghal 1-10 Panel: Brion Saun-
derson, Niall Corcoran, Fintan Greenwood, Evan McCarthy, Liam McGrath, Ciarmhac Smyth, Darragh Codd, Alex Quirke, Adam Fay, Kelvin Barry, Darragh McCarthy , Mikey Finn , David Cremin , Phelim Magann , Evan Kel- ly, James Condon, Cian Murray, James O’Sulli- van, Ben O’Neill, Rory Hartnett Neil Fitzgerald, Tomas Lambe, Craig Collins, Roan Spillane- and Shay Bohan. sunny Páirc Ui Clonmult. Conditions were perfect for the game. The field was in great
condition
considering the intermi- nable rain recently. The Magpies were first off the mark when Kelvin Barry fired over the first point of the game. Darragh McCarthy and Phelim Magann added a point to give us the start that we were looking for. Our backline were rock solid all evening.
