Sports Midleton V Bishopstown - Cork Co. SHC
Midleton 0-19 Bishopstown 0-12
Midleton paved their
way into round three of the Cork County SHC when they accounted for Bishopstown at Pairc Ui Rinn on Sunday last. Mid- leton were always in con- trol of this game but could not shake off the city side until well into the second half.
Midleton went into a
0-5 to 0-1 lead after ten minutes when there was a scoring spurt in the open- ing minutes. Luke O’Far- rell, Cormac Beausang (twice), Cormac Walsh and Padraig O’Farrell all got on the Midleton score sheet as did Bishopstown’s Conor Walsh for his side with a point inside the first twenty seconds. Tomas
Murray added a brace of points for Bishopstown with Conor Walsh again coming forward for the city side
to reduce the
deficit. Conor Lehane swapped a pointed free with Conor Hegarty as both sides traded points as
the short whistle ap-
proached, with Midleton just in front at the break, 0-9 to 0-8. Midleton changed tac-
tics for the second half by taking the game to Bish- opstown, which resulted in Lehane, Sean O’Meara,
and Padraig Nagle adding a point each. Dean Sexton struck back a point for the ‘Town but Midleton were able to answer any ques- tions asked by their city opponents. Midleton were able to take their points in twos where Bishopstown struggled to make an im- pact and were generally second to most attacks. Lehane was showing why he is an integral part of the Cork setup as he dis- played a new appetite for the game scoring success- fully from many different
angles on the famous sod of Pairc Ui Rinn. Luke O’Farrell was always dan- gerous up front but neither goalie was tested in the 68 minutes of play. Midle- ton were happy to see off their rivals and now wait in round three for further developments in this years championship. Scores: Midleton; C.
