61 Minor Hurling Championships Bishopstown V Fr O’Neill’s
Fr. O’Neill’s 2-13 Bishopstown 3-08
some
FR. O’Neill’s showed great
desire in
their P2 AHC win over Bishopstown in Cobh on Thursday night in what was a very good game of hurling.
Bishopstown started off
well with Shane Murphy free after three minutes and for the next five min- utes they controlled the
ball on a very soft pitch, but five wides in-a-row were expensive and of- fered encouragement
to
the men from Aghavine who levelled through Ja- son Hankard from play. Then O’Neill’s start-
ed to get in to this game with a fine score from Pe- ter Hassett and a William Abernethy ‘65’.
Bishopstown respond-
ed with a score, but Ab- ernethy struck over a second ‘65’ and a great score from a tight angle, then Conor Lee a and Tom Wall added further points for O’Neill’s who led by five points on the 23rd
minute.

Shane Murphy pointed then a break way
the goal and efforts
from Evan Murphy in the Bishopstown goal, the shot was just too powerful and crossed the line for the goal. Crisis time you would
feel for Bishopstown, maybe
for 30 seconds
then some great individu- al skill from Liam O’Dri- scoll saw Bishopstown back in the game with a goal and a further three points from Bishopstown and just one in response from O’Neill’s left three points in it at short whistle.

O’Neill’s tagged on a
score early in the second half, but then came a pur- ple patch for ‘Town’. A goal out of nothing
for John Casey made it a one point game just six minutes in, but
it took
an eternity for the next crucial score
to come,
but when Shane Murphy pointed the match was level with just 15 minutes to go.
O’Neill’s didn’t panic
but showed great desire to slowly but surely pull five points clear includ-
ing a Hankard goal and even though Casey got his second goal for Bish- opstown in injury time it was just consolation in a game O’Neill’s deserve d to win. Scorers for Fr. O’Neill’s:

The second game in
Pairc Uí Chinnide on Saturday night brought Castlelyons and relegated Youghal into opposition in the opening round of the Premier Intermediate hurling championship. When these clubs met back in the 2013 decider Youghal emerged winners
by a point and on this oc- casion, just a point sepa- rated them at the finish as well. That said however Cas-
tlelyons were full value for their win with Alan Fenton in superb scoring form for them. Youghal will point to a scoreless third quarter as their undoing as in that time
Castlelyons added
seven points without reply to go with their one-point

the scoring for Youghal before Colm Spillane lev- elled for Castlelyons who went on to add the nest four points without

once more with both sides hitting some superb points as Alan Frahill O’Connor, Bill Cooper and Daragh O’Connell were on target for Youghal, while Daragh Lawlor, Colm Spillane, Tom Carroll and Alan Fenton, helped Castlely- ons to a 0-11 to 0-10 in- terval lead. Alan Fenton who was in
sublime form extended the Castlelyons lead on the re- sumption and it looked all over for Youghal as Cas- tlelyons hit another six un- answered points to lead by 0-17 to 0-10 with 52 min- utes played. A goal fin-
ished by James O’Mahony gave Youghal a lifeline and points from Andrew Joyce, Daragh O’Connell and sub Sean Smiddy gave Youghal some hope. Alan Fenton, who fin- ished with 0-9 to his credit added two further points for Castlelyons, before Youghal staged a late rally with Brett Moloney and Bill Cooper adding points to close the gap to one. Youghal lost two great chances to level and in the end, time ran out for Youghal, who now wait 24 hours for the loser from the Cloyne/ Mallow con-
