AN FOCAL SCOIR Many people to con-

gratulate this week, to put a shine on what has been an otherwise forgettable week. 1. To all those who as-

sisted with the hosting of two exciting Premier In- termediate hurling Cham- pionship games on Satur- day evening last in Páirc Uí Chinnéide, a very big thank you. Under the stew- ardship of cathaoirleach Padraig McGrath and our ‘stadium manager’ Sean Treacy, everything was in

tip-top shape and events ran as smoothly as could be. The persistent rain through the week and the heavy showers that came just as the first match was starting meant that

our

third pitch, which was in use for parking, turned into something of a mud- bath at the exit point, but plenty of muscle got those few spinning vehicles mo- toring safely home. 2. To our clubman and

Cork Games Develop- ment Administrator Colm Crowley, who made head- lines on the Evening Echo and Irish Examiner during the week, we say WELL DONE! Colm has spoken out about the excesses of poor parent and mentor behaviour on the sideline

at juvenile matches and blitzes, referencing exam- ples of problems he has had to deal with as a result of disrespectful and out- rageous

behaviour from

adults. We all have a role, as the ‘responsible’ adults, to show example, leadership and to model appropriate behaviour. This manifests itself in how we speak to and about our own team, our opponents and match officials. It’s 2018, let’s all make a conscious effort to put this into practice every time we attend a match. If we think this is not possi- ble, maybe it’s better then to stay at home. Let’s put it simply: treat others with the respect we would like to get for ourselves. Let’s start NOW.

3. Finally, let’s finish off

on a really positive note. Two weeks ago I wrote about ‘beirt laoch’ inár measc in this corner of the county, namely Davy Russell and Ray Rochford. This week, we salute an- other ‘laoch’ of our parish, Seán Murphy. Seán was honoured on Wednesday last when he received the Overall Individual Award at

the 6th Annual Cork

County Mayor’s Commu- nity Awards Ceremony, an award he was thrilled to receive (although he might be less happy about being referred to as being from Youghal on the Cork Coun- ty Council website – please correct!). Seán has been to the forefront of almost every community group

in the parish over the past 60 years – Killeagh Point To Point,

Community

Council, Muintir na Tíre, Killeagh Hall Committee and of course his beloved Cumann Luth Chleas Gael Cilliath. He has served as club chairman on a number of occasions, and has served for over half a century as Killeagh’s club delegate to the East Cork Board, soldiering for many years alongside his great friend and colleague Jun- ior Scully. Seán, however, is not ready to hang up his boots yet, and was back on duty in Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Saturday evening last. Congratulations Seán, on an honour well deserved.

The Imokilly divi- sion launched its Michael O’Connor Motor Factors sponsored Football Junior Football Championship the

on the night to the club and wished all involved best wishes for the Champion- ship ahead. PRO Shane Supple then called on Im- okilly Chairman Donal O’Keeffe to say a few words and he spoke about the in- volvement of our sponsor

Michael O’Connor Motor Factors Glanmire over the last number of years and how his sponsorship was vital to the running of our Championship. Shane Supple then called

on Michael O’Connor to say a few words as our main sponsor for our Football Championship and he too wished all teams the very best going forward and was delighted to once again be involved in sponsoring the Imokilly Football Cham- pionship. With that every- one adjourned outside where photos were taken. We would like to thank Er- ins Own for hosting us this evening and the tea and sandwiches were a blessing. Everybody on the Im-
