“there are so many won- derful individuals and groups in Cork County that deserve

recognition

for the work which they do.”

He said the are “set awards to congratulate

all the nominees on the enormous positives they are bringing to their com- munities, and to promote further their commitment

to their communities” This is the sixth year

of the awards, which saw a record number of 48 nominations. East Cork ranked very highly on the night with Carrigtwohill Family re- source Centre receiving a group Award with Sean Murphy and Sr. Emma- nuel Leonard both receiv- ing individual recognition. The Carrigtwohill Cen- was recognised for

the group commenced by providing parenting and personal

classes along with home- work, shared reading and adult

education classes.

As demand grew the Cen- tre expanded by providing ECDL and basic comput- er classes, a preschool fa- cility, a breakfast club for children from the traveller community followed, soon after, by a homework club. 2012 saw the redevelop- ment of the Centre at a

cost of over €750K, with the only public funding received being a grant of €25K from Cork County Council. Killeagh man, Sean

Murphy, received the overall individual award, having given six decades of his life

to voluntary

community activities. He was recently honoured by the East Cork GAA Board for 54 years un- broken service. Currently the County President of Cork County Federation of Muintir na Tire, Séan has been instrumental in setting up the Commu- nity
