Lower Aghada Tennis Club


Winter League (Munster) 2017/18 Last weekend our divi- sion 6 ladies team played at home against


visitors


Nenagh, the side led by team captain Lisa Daunt secured 2 points in what was their first outing of the season so that is very good news. Others in the team included Maura Brady, Eileen Dundon and Maria O’Neill. On the day all four ladies played their best


tennis and represented our club well. Their next outing is against


Sun-


days Well Cork in two weeks time. Result, Lower Aghada 2 Nenagh 2. Our division 4 mixed


team were also at home against St Michael’s Cork, this game was a cracker as both teams were so even- ly matched. Again both teams took 2 points each after playing a couple of hours of high class ten- nis. Team captain Mary

Spookey Club Nite The night was a huge


success after players came out in big numbers, we played men’s and ladies doubles as well as mixed games that included all grades. Theatmosphere around


the place was amazing, fab tennis and refresh-


ments were served after- wards in the blue cabin. The

Hanley and the top prize winner was Statia O’Hare from Midleton one of the longest serving club nite participants . (see photo- graphs)


Junior Tennis Last Wednesday we


sent a team of juniors to the Kinsale Club to play a friendly, included were u/9s, u/10s and u/12s, great


tennis was had by


all. Many thanks to Kin- sale for hosting the games. Head coach Joanne


Williamson reports that they are now half way


through the junior coach- ing programme and its progressing very well. Development squads are running on Saturday af- ternoons with some great work being done by the coaches and the kids are doing very well. 10 jun- iors played at


the recent


Ballinlough Open and en- joyed the experience. The junior committee


have entered 3 teams in the junior Winter Com- petitions, the Wilson and KBS Cups, so that’s all to look forward to. Prac- tices for the junior teams will take place on Friday nights over the coming weeks. Fitzys Friday fours


have now concluded and will recommence around mid November, (The same for his Friday morn- ing drilling).


Road Show The club have just host-


ed the first ever Munster Doubles road show with Paul Casey and John McGahon. It seemed to be a huge success, hope- fully it we can have them return again in the Spring.
