39 Youghal RNLI Lay Wreath In Memory of All Who Perished at Sea by DENISE
FITZGERALD At 3pm on Sunday last
at
Youghal, a moving and poignant Wreath
the RNLI Station in Lay-
ing Ceremony was held for all who have died, or
been in danger at sea or along the coast, and in gratitude for the gener- osity and selflessness of the men and women who serve, or have served as members of the RNLI and Irish Coast Guard. The opening Prayers
by Rev Hunter who said “For our tomorrow, they gave
today”, were
ful sea shanty “Home, Home from the
fol-
lowed by Hymns sung by the Community Choir from St. Mary’s Colle- giate Church under the Baton of Patricia Whyte, including the wonder-
Sea”
with music by Kevin O’Connell, Organist. A Lament was then played by Michael McCarthy, Youghal Pipe Band. The special Ceremo- ny was well attended by
locals from the Youghal and surrounding areas, many of whom were honouring family mem- bers who had lost their lives to the sea, and who told The East Cork Journal that, in a way, it was also a celebration of
their lives. Rev Hunter then hand-
ed the Wreath to Karen Walsh, crew member of Youghal RNLI, follow- ing which the Lifeboat “Gordon and Phil” was launched. The Wreath was then taken out into
the deep where members of
the Youghal RNLI
crew Eric Brookes, Jason Clohessy, Alan Revins and Karen Walsh laid it on the waters to remem- ber always those who had lost their lives at sea.
