Match Report: Cork City WFC 1-0 UCD Waves (Shine 34’) A first half goal from
Clare Shine was enough for Cork City WFC to claim their first ever FAI Continental Tyre’s Wom- en’s Senior Cup at the Aviva Stadium on Sun- day November 5th
.
The game started scrappily with both sides trying to work their way into the game with nei- ther side having much in
the way of goal chances. Clare Shine had an ear- ly effort from distance which was saved. City’s first real chance came thanks to a cross from Danielle Sheehy however Shine was unable to ap- ply real bite to the header and it went harmlessly wide. Shine was on hand
again on the half hour mark when a great through ball from Sao- irse Noonan set her loose however her subsequent effort on goal was off tar- get. Shine was not to be denied for long as in the
34th minute Katie McCa-
rthy played her through on the left and she ex- pertly rounded the ‘keep- er and put it away from a tight angle to give City a 1-0 lead. While UCD had a
lot of possession as the half went on a strong performance from the City defence of Burke, McNamara, Duncliffe and O’Brien meant that goalkeeper Amanda Budden had very little to do with the only chance of note for UCD as the first half finished coming at the 44th
minute was a strong 2nd

Corinthians 1-0 Midleton. A dip in form today
for the Magpies which didn’t see them give the display they were hoping for, in turn saw Midleton
long distance effort from Aisling Dunbar which Budden comfortably caught. The second half start-
ed much as the first fin- ished with UCD having a lot of possession but rarely threatening Aman- da Budden in the Cork City goal while City were always a danger on the counter attack as on the hour mark Danielle Sheehy sent in a danger- ous cross into the UCD box which just evaded everyone. Moments later Saoirse Noonan had a shot after a failed clear- ance dropped to her in the box but she failed to make proper contact
lose 1-0, In truth only for some great saves from GK Alex Howard Mid- leton could have lost this game by more. But this team will bounce back and have next week to do so.

with it and was saved by Brooke Dunne in the UCD goal. Christina Dring re-
placed Kate O’Donovan on the 64th
minute mark.
City continued to hold out well with their big- gest scare coming from a defensive mix up but Catherine Cronin’s at- tempted lob going wide of the goal. At the other end Shine was almost in on goal after being played through by Noo- nan but an excellent de- fensive tackle stopped the chance. Danielle Sheehy had a good effort which was well saved by Dunne. Tara O’Gorman re- placed Saoirse Noonan
