Almost One Third of East Cork Social Housing Allocated To People Outside The District

by SEAMUS WHELEHAN

Cork County Council

is to seek Government funding to develop lands at Abbeywood , Bane- shane, close to Gaelscoil Mhainistir na Corann, just off the N25. Earlier this week Councillors gave permis- sion for 61 rapid build houses on the site to go back out for public con- sultation. Last year the Depart-

ment of Housing gave the Local Authority

€13million to develop the site through public pri- vate partnership. However, it’s believed

the landowner now wish- es to sell the land to the Local Authority. According to a Coun-

cil source, Cork County Council intends to go on site towards the end of 2018, with completion of the project expected in early 2019. Cork County Council

would not make a com- ment, saying it was com- mercially too sensitive.
