Good News in Sight for Glounthaune Men’s Shed Movement
by SEAMUS WHELEHAN
Cork County Council
have given some hope to the Glounthaune Men’s Shed who are looking for a per- manent home. The local authority an- nounced this week it would look at leasing a vacant site to the popular group near the Rock Grove Industrial Estate. The move comes follow-
ing a motion tabled at the November sitting of the Cobh and Glanmire Munic- ipality by Fine Gael Coun- cillor Anthony Barry. Men’s Sheds are interna-
tional mental health initia- tives allowing men to share their skills and make new friends in an effort to tackle

issues such as isolation and mental health problems. Cllr Barry’s call was
backed by the Municipality chairman Padraig O’Sulli- van a supporter of the ini- tiative. Cllr O’Sullivan in back-
ing the motion quipped “it’s the first time the people of Glounthaune were willingly coming towards Little Is- land.” Paraig Lynch the Munic-
ipality Executive officer said he would refer the matter to the property section of County Hall. He said subject to the
member’s approval the au- thority could look at leasing the area with the condition if the site is required at a lat- er stage it would revert back to the local authority.
