67 East Cork Soccer Notes

to Mallow last Sunday morning

restrict-

ed squad numbers, but still hoping to keep their unbeaten league record intact. But unfortunately, they came up against a very tough Mallow team and very vocal home sup-

and Alan Duggan for good performances on the day.

port, losing by 2 goals to nil. A late penalty and a breakaway goal did the damage. All the lads gave it 100 % on a pitch which didn’t

really suit

Corkbegs passing game. Special mention to Evan Crowley, Niall Kirrane

Corkbeg U-11s The U-11 team has plenty

seen over

of the past action fortnight,

with games against Car- rigtwohill and Springfield. The lads won both games against Carrigtwohill last

Sunday and were away to Springfield Ramblers last Sunday morning. They came away with one win and one loss down in Cobh, but they held their heads up high as every- one played like it was the FA cup. Keep up the good work, lads!

Cork City Cup

Double at the Aviva Stadium Last

Sunday was a

great day for soccer in Cork! What a fantastic day at the Aviva Stadium! Congratulations to

Cork City FC on their penalty shootout victory over Dundalk in the FAI Cup final and congratula- tions to Cork City Wom-

ens FC on their 1-0 win over UCD Waves in the WFAI Cup final. Corkbeg goalkeeper Eric Higgins is heavily involved in the

coach-

ing side with Cork City Womens FC and we’d like to especially congratulate Eric and the girls on their win over UCD Waves.

East Cork Basketball

Statement From Basketball Ireland: Neptune And Irish International Player, Liam Chandler

It is with great sadness

that we have learned of the untimely passing of Neptune and Irish inter- national basketball play-

er, Liam Chandler. The 18-year-old was

a player of great char- acter, talent and com- mitment, known in par-

ticular for his ability and skill under the boards. He played a huge part in Neptune’s Cup win- ning treble earlier this

year and, on many oc- casions, wore the Irish jersey with pride at in- ternational tournaments and European Champi-

onships - most recently representing his country at Under 18 level in Tal- linn, Estonia. Everyone at Basketball

Ireland would like to ex- tend sincere condolences to Liam’s family, friends, club and teammates. A few moments silence

will be held in his memo- ry at all basketball events this coming weekend. May he Rest in Peace.
