November 2017 Ardmore Ease Past St Patrick’s From Limerick
Ardmore 4-20 St Patrick’s 0-11
Ardmore, the Waterford
Junior hurling champions are through to a semi-fi- nal meeting with the Clare champions after another impressive display at
the
Gaelic Grounds in Limer- ick last Sunday. The Deise side proved
far too strong for St Pat- rick’s who did open the scoring from a Calvin Moran free in the opening minute. It was to be the only time that they would be in
front as Ardmore
found the net a minute later when the diminutive Kieran Conway upended goalkeeper David Geary with a fair shoulder and when the ball ran loose, Conway stroked to the
empty net. Wayne Hen- nessy and Seamus Pren- dergast added points be- fore James Flavin set up David Gartland for second goal in the 7th
min-
ute to set Ardmore on the road to victory.
Gartland
added a further point in reply to one from Calvin Moran as Ardmore led by 2-3 to 0-2 after the open- ing quarter. By half time Ardmore
added another seven points with Seamus Pren- dergast (4) and Seamus Keating (3) striking over some brilliant points, but an improving St Patrick’s did manage five scores with Brendan Mullins, Gearoid Hegarty, Jack
the
Doyle and two from Cal- vin Moran leaving them trailing by 0-7 to 2-10 at half time.
While Calvin Moran again had the
opening
point on the resumption, it was Ardmore with Sean Barron, David Gartland, Wayne
Hennessy and
Gavin Williams driving forward and points from Hennessy and Prendergast were augmented with a quality goal from former Waterford star Seamus Prendergast, with current panellist Seamus Keating turning in a man of
the
match performance from the centre back position. Keating was a tour de force and with a great sup- porting cast Ardmore led by 3-15 to 0-10 approach- ing the
three-quarter
mark. Corner back Daniel Power was lucky to escape with a yellow after referee
U21B Hurling County Final
Sarsfields 2-11 Kilshannig 2-18
crowned
Kilshannig were Cork U21A
hurling champions after a fully deserved victory over Sarsfields in the final played at Pairc Ui Rinn last Saturday night. On a bitterly cold
evening it was the North Cork side that played the better hurling and while Cian Darcy opened the scoring for Sarsfields, it was Kilshannig that made most of the running with Kevin O’Flynn their star
forward. Both sides took a while to settle with both defences on top and after a poor opening quarter Kilshannig led by 0-2 to 0-1.
Gradually the Avondhu
champions grew into the game and with O’Flynn in superb form, they began to pull clear. Three O’Flynn points and one each from Dermot Twomey and Ki- eran Twomey to just two in reply for Sarsfields from Danny Allen and Cian
Darcy had Kilshannig on top. At the back solid work from Joseph Cronin, Jack Twomey, Jack Kear- ney and midfielder Conor Murphy gave Kilshannig a grip on the game and before half time a well tak- en goal from Jerome Mur- phy followed by a point from Eoin O’Sullivan had Kilshannig in the driving seat as they led by 1-9 to 0-3. Indeed, it might have been more, but Ben Gra- ham produced a fantas- tic save and clearance to deny Kilshannig another goal deep into injury time. On the resumption it
was Kevin O’Flynn who increased the lead to ten
Philip Kelly deemed his in- discretion not a strike, but a minute later St Patrick’s captain Brendan Mullins was not so lucky, and his deliberate strike drew a red card. Seconds later James Flavin had scored the 4th goal for Ardmore who then emptied their bench. A further five points were added before the finish, while St Patrick’s best for- ward Calvin Moran had their only point of the fi- nal quarter. Ardmore now have a home semi-final against Clare champions Boydyke
next weekend
and if they can contin- ue to play as they did last week then they will have every chance of reaching a Munster final. Ardmore: S Prender-
gast 1-9, D Gartland 1-4, S Keating 0-4, K Conway 1-0, J Flavin 1-0, W Hen- nessy 0-2 and J Gartland
points, but a goal and a point from Cian Darcy suggested that Sarsfields, might yet make a fight of it. Kilshannig had other ideas with Jack Kearney pointing and within thirty seconds Dermot Twomey had fired in a second goal to give the advantage back to Kilshannig and by the three-quarter mark
they
led by 2-15 to 2-7 as Cian Darcy with 1-2, Conor Crowley and Tadgh O’Brien had points for Sarsfields who continued to battle hard. They found the going
tough and apart from Cian Darcy, they had little strength in attack. Points from Darcy (3) and Dar- ragh O’Mahony brought Sarsfields closer, but in
truth they were never
close enough to make a game of it. While they did reduce the deficit to five points at one stage, points from Kevin O’Flynn and Jack Kearney closed out the win for Kilshannig, who on the night were the better side. At times Sars- fields showed glimpses of what
they could do but
the more determined Kil- shannig side won the dirty ball. The goals either side of the interval were also crucial as was the elev- en-point haul of free-taker Kevin O’Flynn, who had a real productive evening. Prior to the game a silence was ob-
