after another blister- ing display throughout the month of October which saw him average 30 points per game. Garvey’s Tralee War-

riors head coach, Mark Bernsen, has won the Super League Coach of the Month after leading his team to an unbeaten run of four games in the

league throughout Octo- ber which sees them cur- rently top of the table. In the Women’s Super

League, Kiera Gaines of NUIG Mystics has won the Player of the Month award, having top scored for her side through- out

defence under pressure. They moved the ball well from one side of the pitch to the other, stretching the Midleton defence and cre- ating a few opportunities on goal.

Midleton defence held

strong with some key saves from Reyes Hevia, who put on goalie gear for the first time today, and played a great game. Midleton created some

opportunities in the first half, with some great runs down the left side by Charlotte Walsh, but un- fortunately they couldn’t capitalise on these in the circle. Sarah Hall had a great

chance to score in the first half having hooked onto a ball coming into the circle, but

utes of the second half, Midleton were

playing

very well with some good passing from mid-field to the forwards. With a few short corners in succes- sion, there were opportu- nities to score but unfor- tunately it wasn’t to be on the day. The last ten minutes of

the match saw the youth- ful Limerick side throw everything at Midleton. They got a short corner

in the last minute, result- ing in a strong hit from the top of the circle head- ing for goal. Rosa O’Con- nell, who was a rock in defence, blocked this powerful shot stick, but

The Long Point Divi- sion 1 is really hotting up with 1 point separating the top 4 as the tourna- ment moves into the last 3 weeks. The Long Point lead by one point after going down 6-3 to JD’s. JD’s started well roar- ing into a 5-0 lead with strong victories for An- thony Russell and James Howes. Stephen O’Hal- loran helped stop the rot

before Brendan O’Reilly closed out the game for JD’s. The

Corner House

welcomed Hennessey’s “B” and a strong per- formance from the Ball- inacurra

side helped

put them back into con- tention. Dave Hickman and Paddy Quinn Jnr got The Corner House off to a perfect start with strong wins. Joe Crotty

responded with a strong performance for Hen- nessey’s

with Godfrey Kirby. Philip Moore and Pad- dy Quinn Snr closed out the game for the Corner House with solid vic- tories to move them 1 point off the lead. The Central Star wel-

comed Kades to Youghal and scraped through 5-4 on the night. Paddy Hea- phy and Pat Peters per- formed well to get a good start for the Central Star. Mark O’Donnell and Barry McCarthy replied for Kades but it wasn’t enough to stop Central

Star joining JD’s and the Corner House 1 point off the lead at the top of the table. In the Gaelic Bar Divi- sion 2 Hickeys and Niall McCarthy’s clashed in their push for honours. A 6-3 win for Hickeys keeps them in 2nd

Hennessey’s “A” jumped a point clear at the top with the victory over the Tower Bar. Liam Faul and John Fitzgerald con- tinued their consistent form with victories for Hennesseys “A”. Ritchie Barry had a good victo- ry against Jason Fitzger- ald to get a point for the Tower Bar but it wasn’t enough as Hennessey’s “A” gained the victory. Harty’s and Colbert’s

Bar collided in Cloyne where Colbert’s contin- ued their push for top spot in the league with

a 5-4 win but it was a tough battle as Harty’s themselves gained valua- ble points as they pushed for a semi final spot. Dan Twomey, Mick Casey and Michael Byrne pushed Colbert’s into an early lead but they didn’t have it all their own way as Cathal Cronin, John- ny McMahon and Ea- mon Brew responded to get some valuable points for Harty’s. Killorglin head coach, Ignas Sijanas has secured the accolade of Coach of the Month, having

continued his side’s un- beaten run throughout October, leaving them as one of just two unbeaten sides in the Division. In the Women’s Divi- sion One, newcomers to the league Fabplus North West have collected their first accolade, with the superb Makenzie Burud securing the Player of

was awarded, with the fi- nal whistle blown seconds after, leaving Limerick with “last play” and one last attempt to score. The Midleton defence stayed strong and cleared the ball, leaving the match re- sult at 0-0. A hard fought

game

that could have resulted in either team winning, but Midleton were happy to come away with a draw, away

from home. Well done girls.

The 2nd

Midleton Men’s s travelled to Waterford

on a perfectly fine day for hockey. On the flipside, the team travelled with a bare 11 players. Before the

match

started, we talked about passing the ball around, creating gaps for pushing forward and then closing down the opposition when they have the ball, and we executed the plan fantasti- cally in the first half. There was great pass-

ing of the ball with plenty of back-up and support being given throughout the pitch, and the goals flowed from there. The first goal came af-

ter just 5 minutes with a lovely strike by Sam Spill- ane. A short corner 3 min- utes later was finished by

a Simon Casey drag flick. And just 4 minutes after that Fergal Roche scored on his debut for the team this year. Neil Sandes then caused

trouble when he went ‘head’ first into a Water- ford player. This result- ed in blood flowing from both players but while the Waterford player headed off for stitches, Neil was able to resume after about 10 minutes rest. The

scoring resumed

straight after that. 4 more goals in less than 10 min- utes from Sam (32 min- utes), Jason (34 minutes), Johnny Spillane (36 min- utes) and Sam, who got his hat trick from a short corner on the half

time

whistle, meant we were 7-0 up at half time.

Into the second half

and two more goals from Fergal (5 minutes) and Johnny Spillane (6 min- utes) just closed out the game completely and the foot was taken off the pedal after that. Waterford had one corner awarded

short

about 20 minutes into the second half, which was well finished and deserv- edly gave them something for their efforts. Fergal got his hat-trick close to the final whistle. Well done to the two

players who scored hat- tricks today. The whole team really showed what can be achieved when the team works together. Looking forward to next week already.

Novem-

ber at the Two Mile Inn. Entry forms are now be- ing distributed to teams.
