Fourth East Cork Rapid Response Golf Classic Again a Huge Hit
by ALAN SHEEHAN Response
The East Cork Rapid annual Golf
Classic was another great success last Wednesday and Thursday, 17 and 18 May. Fifty teams took part
in the fourth annual Golf Classic, held again at the East Cork Golf Club, to raise money for the East Cork Rapid Response and to win one of the many prizes offered, or just good-natured brag- ging rights over other competing teams. “It was very success- ful,” said Michael Hayes, one of the organisers of the Golf Classic. “There was a great atmosphere, a great buzz over the two days. There were a few local teams who knew each other well and were trying to outdo each other. The
inter-team
rivalries were great. The scoring was very good despite
some people
having to play in show- ers due to the weather. The food on the day was excellent from the East Cork Golf Club. Every- body enjoyed themselves across both days, abso- lutely.” The idea for the first
ECRR Golf Classic is at- tributed to the late Rich- ard O’Riordan, a found- ing committee member of ECRR who passed away in January 2014, with the idea made pos- sible through the gener- osity of the late Maurice Moloney, proprietor of the East Cork Golf Club, who passed away late the following year. “We were grateful for
the sponsorship of prizes from local businesses and individuals,”
said Mi-
chael. “We are obviously very grateful to our main sponsors, the Midleton Park Hotel and to Don McFarlane of the East
soloist in Saint Saens’s Christmas Oratorio last December, and received critical acclaim for her recent tour of a “tribute to Mario Lanza”, Sarah is sure to impress with her many arias both op- eratic and contemporary. Mezzo Soprano Orla Irwin makes her debut as soloist in Castlemartyr. She is no stranger to the stage and has excelled in drama, when she played Peg in the Youghal based
Cork Golf Club who provided some of the prizes as well.” The proceeds raised on
the day will go towards ECRR, a voluntary ser- vice which supplements the ambulance service by providing emergency pre-hospital care on par with ambulances at seri- ous emergency medical incidents, ECRR is run on a voluntary basis with no personnel receiving payment and all medical equipment and mainte- nance for the response car funded by public do- nations.
