It’s Not Your Average Summer Holiday with Adventure Ardeche

How does sunbathing,

abseiling, river swim- ming, rock jumping, zip lining & canoeing down one of the most beau- tiful rivers in the world sound? What

about a

night’s wild camping, with a million stars for company? That’s the or- der of the day, or rather the week, for those that embark upon a holiday with Adventure

Ar-

deche. The adventure com-

pany has been leading families on exhilarat- ing journeys in France for the past decade, but founder Philip Gasson’s life in a kayak began

much closer to home than that. “The first time I sat in a canoe was on a pond in Midleton with my Uncle Tom, Savage” he said. “We visited my mum’s family in Cork every holiday. It was al- ways absolute

bedlam

with aunts, uncles, cous- ins and mischief every- where. As soon as we got home from that particu- lar holiday (a good 37 years ago…) I begged my mum for a kayak. She made a fuss about it, but

even she, the

most stubborn woman who ever lived, agreed it worked out alright in the end.”

That it did. Since

2005, Philip and his team have safely guided thousands upon thou- sands of people down the river and through the trees. “It’s a truly unique experience,” he explains. “It’s one for all the fam- ily. Children get to revel in the glee of watching their parents become big kids, whilst adults get to watch their children grow in confidence and capability (and also ex- haust themselves enough to guarantee a quiet glass of wine at the end of a long day…).” Activites aside, the Ardeche is a beautiful

place to restore; to dig- itally detox and step away from the every day. With a bounty of se- cluded swimming spots, a wealth of fine restau- rants, wine so good it travels the globe and a UNESCO World Her- itage badge to its name, it’s a bright burst of sun- shine that deserves to be explored in its entirety. Adventure

Ardeche’s

holidays run Saturday to Saturday and start at €399pp including ac- commodation. To find out more, email adven- tureardeche@me.com or call +44 208 123 0076.
