Russell Rovers 2-14 Fr. O’Neills 2-14 Last Tuesday evening May, we trav-
elled east to Aghavine to play our near neighbours in Division 1 of the JHL and while we came away with a share of the spoils, one felt that this was more of a case of a league point dropped than a point gained. Yet, considering that we lined out without 5 or 6 first choice players, including both our main and sub goalkeepers, I’m sure
management will
feel happy enough with the result. It was a fine sunny evening but a stiff wind blowing diagonally into the
dressing-room
end made scoring a little tricky at times. We had the breeze to our backs in the open- ing half but were dealt a hammer-blow as early as the 3rd
high dropping ball
minute when a into
the edge of the square was flicked to the net by O’Neills to give them the perfect
start. We recov-

break by 1-8 to 1-3 with Brian Hartnett registering 1-7 from play and frees and wing-back Kevin Moynihan, who had an excellent game, shoot- ing over the other point. Hartnett’s goal was ab- solute class when he won possession about 30 me- tres out and weaved his way through the O’Neills defence before letting fly a screamer to the far cor- ner of the net. Indeed, we should have been further ahead at half-time but too many wides, mostly to the left of the goals, cost us dearly. And to add to our injury woes we lost cor- ner-back Eoghan O’Sul- livan with a pulled mus- cle just before the break, though Eoin McGrath slotted in well in his place. Turning to face the
wind for the second half, Daniel Moynihan shot over a fine point in the 32nd minute to put 6 points be- tween the sides. O’Neills replied with a pointed free before getting in for a goal of the soft variety in the 6th
minute. A min-
ute later we regained our 5 points advantage when

Moynihan, picked
out Bud Hartnett with a good pass and while he had a good bit of work to do, there was only going to be one outcome – the bottom corner of the net dancing. The remainder of the
second half was a struggle for supremacy as O’Neills, aided by the wind, began to close the gap slowly but surely. Hartnett convert- ed three frees and John Ahern and Luke Mur- ray added two sublime points from play. By the 30th
whittled the margin down to two points and went on to salvage a draw with a brace of white flags deep into five minutes of stop- page time. Team:

St Colmans 5-10 Cobh 3-7 Last Thursday night our
May, in Shan-
minors travelled to Cobh for their rd match of the minor league that test
knowing
this was to be a big for them after their
first game against Inch Rovers last
week.Since the last game and another few training sessions under their belt the girls looked to be a way more bal- anced side showing fierce intensity and team work all through the game.ln the first 10 minutes of play Katie struck a wonderful goal from a penalty after some great outfield play

from Ellen and Ashling. With Fay dominating at half back we were able to launch a lot of positive at- tacks into the forward line of Sinead,Daisy and Rois- in who were able to add on a few points. Our midfield- ers Ellen and Tara kept the pace of the game up and this led to some more excellent point and goal taking from Katie Chloe.Going in at
and half-
time we were well pleased with the effort put in and knew that Cobh would put up a big challenge in the second
half.Changes to be made meant that Roi- sin was moved to midfield to partner Tara and this added more strength for the suspected challenge
that Cobh were going to
bring.Colmans started great scoring 3 goals thru Katie,Fay and Chloe and when Cobh did respond they were met by some sol- id defending from Muire- ann,Lucy and
Sile.Andre was as usual sweeping all before her and anything that did get
thru’ was
stopped by Tara in goals who is getting better and better with every game. Team:Tara Ro-
