Junior A Football Championship Aghada 2-2 v Castlelyons 0-13; 19/05/2017 in Ballinacurra Our Junior A football-

ers bowed of this year’s championship when they were outplayed by a supe- rior Castlelyons outfit last Friday night in Ballinacur-

ra. Aghada had the best possible start when Kevin O’Hanlon raised a green flag in under 30 seconds. Charlie Terry added a point on 4 minutes, but for the majority of the half Castleyons would be dom- inant. They kicked 8 points and missed as many again. Conal Rabbitt did lift the siege with a second Agha- da goal coming up to half time and at the short whis- tle, despite being second best, there was only a point between the sides – Aghada

2-1 v Castlelyons 0-8. Un- fortunately the pattern of the game didn’t change af- ter the restart with Castle- lyons pointing in the open- ing minute. Further points followed on 16, 18, 24 and 27 minutes. It would be the 59th

minute before Aghada

registered any score in the second half, when they had the final point of the game. So it’s Castlelyons who ad- vance to the next

round

winning by 5 points on the night.

win over Sliabh Rua was cemented by two great in- dividual goals from Alan Warren and John Carroll and excellent scores added on by Liam Gosnell, James Mulcahy and Brendan Twomey ensured a clear Carrig victory. Senior football league Division 3 Aghada 1-14 v Rockchapel 1-16; 20/5/2017 in Rockchapel

Our senior footballers

made the long journey to Rockchapel last Saturday evening to play the next round of their league. A lively game of football saw both sides kick 1-7 before the break. The

Aghada

goal came from Shane Ben- nett, and looked like giving Aghada the edge at half time, however Rockchapel struck for a goal of their own just before the break. On resumption the game continued to flow from end to end. Cian Fleming finished with 8 points, hit- ting 4 in each half. Overall however it was the home

side that raised the more white flags in the 2nd

half

and despite a good enough performance, Aghada had to face the long road home without any league points to show for their efforts. Aghada Team and

scorers – Andy O’Dono- ghue, Mark Healy, Kalen O’Donoghue, Kyle O’Shea, Sam Burgess, Jordan Tynan, Aiden O’Connell, Conor O’Dri- scoll, Tom O’Neill (0-1), John Looney (0-1), Pearse O’Neill

Blarney and Val- ley Rovers make up the remainder of the 5-team competition which serves as a great opportunity for younger members of the minor panel to get game time and gain valuable ex- perience at this level. The non-exam league contin- ues this Friday in Carrig against Valley Rovers at 7.30pm.

Senior Hurling Championship: This Sunday, May 28th

,

our senior hurlers play their opening round of the hurling championship against Midleton in Páirc Uí Rinn at 2.15pm. Good performances in league and challenge games in recent weeks give room for optimism for what will be, at

the very least, a lively

encounter. This game is the first of a double-head-

The losers of Carrig and Midleton will play the losers of Bandon and Blackrock in Round 2B with the winners tak- ing on the victors from the Erin’s Own and Killeagh tie in Round 2A. We wish our senior hurlers the best of luck and ask for a show of support on Sunday that their hard work deserves.

Primary Games Last Sunday in Thurles was a great day for Cork hurling after an epic win over All-Ireland cham- pions Tipperary. A fine display of hurling and ath- leticism was not confined to the 70 minutes of this game however as Car- rigtwohill’s Adam Rooney and Ciara Walsh showed at

half time when par-

ticipating in the primary games on behalf of their schools. Congratulations to Adam and Ciara on a wonderful achievement.
