MIDLETON INDOOR BOWLS CLUB “DOLLY HORGAN” CUP FINAL
(10TH ANNIVERSARY) On last Thursday night
both Finals of the “Dolly Horgan” Cup and Plate took place in the G.A.A. club. We had a full turn out of club members and
there was a great buzz in the hall.
guaranteed It was great to
see so many members in- volved who had not played in the finals before. We were
new
names on the Cup as none of the teams had won the beautiful trophy before. Dolly was a member of
our club for many years and was one of the most
popular players with every- one involved in bowls. The highlight
for excitement Dolly
each year was the week- end in Killarney with her husband Finbarr. The
and
tension in the hall on final night was at fever
was contested by pitch
as our umpire Malcolm Taylor tossed the coin for choice of first away, the Cup
John O’Driscoll and Mick McCarthy Vs Maureen O’Sullivan and Pat McEn- tee. And what a game we
had with just one shot be- tween the teams at the end of a cliff hanger with John and Mick hanging on for a great win. Well done to both teams. In the Plate we had Ann
Coll and Mary O’Reilly in the red corner against Margaret McCarthy and Con O’Sullivan and in an- other very exciting game Margaret and Con were worthy winners after
a
very close game. At the presentation of the prizes our Chairman
thanked Finbarr Horgan and family for their won- derful support they give every year to the bowls club.
As this was the 10th anni-
versary of the competition, Tadgh made a presenta- tion to Finbarr. Tadgh also welcomed Jerry Wallis and his family and said it was an honour to have them in- volved and thanked them for their sponsorship of the prizes again this year and is looking forward to next year already.
Jerry Wallis presented
the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the Plate and said he was de- lighted to be able to help the club and promised to be back again next year. Finbarr then presented the runners-up prizes to Mau- reen and Pat, and praised both players for a great performance.
Amidst
huge excitement he pre- sented the prizes and the “Dolly Horgan” Perpetual trophy to John O’Driscoll and Mick McCarthy who
were worthy winners of a great competition.
Fin-
barr said it was an honour for his family to be in- volved and great to see all the club members present on the night. Everyone then moved
into the lounge where food and beverages were sup- plied and music was pro- vided by our very our very own D.J Malcolm and we danced until the wee hours of the morning.
