In the heart of Dartmoor is the chocolate box village of North Bovey, complete with the thatched 13th century Ring of Bells pub with food and rooms. Tere is a great walk of around eight miles from the village to Manaton and then eastwards to Nutcracker Rocks, on to Hunter Tor and back to North Bovey.


A visit to East Dartmoor would not be complete without going to Chagford. Tis small town has a popular town square with privately owned shops, some of which have been in the same family for generations, plus a range of arts and crafts galleries, and a very large swimming pool. Te town is always buzzing with events throughout the year, including renowned literary and film festivals.


Chagford is a must for lovers of food and drink, with some top-class restaurants, a range of inns, pubs and a choice of hotels, guesthouses and farm stays to suit every budget. Te Globe Inn has an interesting


decor and the renowned Gidleigh Park Hotel is just outside of the town. Surrounding the town is a glorious wilderness with granite tors, sparkling rivers, and wildlife, including the iconic Dartmoor pony. Tere are some spectacular guided walks plus bridleways and cycling tracks. Nearby is the wonderful Stone Lane Sculpture Garden. To avoid the challenging parking problems the Sandy Park Inn is just a few miles away.


Moretonhampstead has many seasonal attractions, which include Moreton Music Day and Moretonhampstead Carnival. Tere is also a Motor Museum, Miniature Pony Centre, and the award winning Green Hill Arts and Heritage Gallery. Tere are local shops, cafes, places to stay and several excellent food pubs. Te White Hart offers rooms and food. Whatever the time of year there is something going on in this small Dartmoor town.


Te quaint village of Drewsteignton, with its thatched houses, lies above the Teign Gorge. Tere are two food pubs being the Old Inn and the ancient Drewe Arms, plus a choice of places to stay and a shop. Nearby is the Neolithic burial chamber known as Spinsters Rock and the Iron Age hill fort of Prestonbury Castle.


To see Dartmoor at its best, Fingle Bridge is a must. At this amazing place there are a multitude of interesting walks, with amazing views from Hunter’s Path which go to CASTLE DROGO, and the famous Two Moors Way is within walking distance. Te ancient Fingle Mill, Cranbrook Castle and the village of Drewsteignton

are all close. For nature lovers, wildlife such as deer, fish, otters, herons, dippers, squirrels, salmon and brown trout abound, and for cyclists, the rugged paths of Fingle Gorge are challenging. To help you to enjoy the area, try the unique Fingle Bridge Inn.


CASTLE DROGO is reminiscent of a medieval fortress. Te castle was designed and built between 1910 and 1930 by renowned architect Sir Edwin Lutyens for self-made millionaire Julius Drewe. Inside the castle there are artistic displays, and outside you can see the stonemasons at work during renovation work. Nearby, are the villages and hamlets of Whiddon Down, with great walks; Easton has the well known Easton Park Hotel; Cheriton Bishop is two miles south and home to the Old Tatched Inn. Towards the village of Dunsford is Great Fulford House which is open to the public. Dunsford has won the Large Village section of the Best Kept Village, the pub here is the Royal Oak.


Bridford is near the beauty spot of Steps Bridge, with Heltor Rock woodland paths and open countryside. Te Bridford Inn has food and the Walled Garden restaurant offers Devon cream teas.
