second oldest town in Cornwall is Helston. It is well known for the Helston Flora Dance, and its impressive stone-sculpted buildings and kennels (channels of water running down either side of the high street). Tose interested in heritage can wander through narrow streets, or follow the Town Trail and visit HELSTON MUSEUM to discover the town’s history. For those wishing to experience a ‘taste of the West’ there is a variety of warm and welcoming places to eat and drink, including the famous Springo ale available at the Blue Anchor, and


Flora Day is at the beginning of May, when the whole town turns out to dance


through the streets. Te Freedom Parade at the beginning of June is an opportunity to share in the pride of the military personnel based on the outskirts of the town, and the Harvest Fayre in September, to name just a few of the opportunities. Additionally there are weekly markets, theatre and music, a golf club, plus one of the few boating lakes in the county, and Flambards Teme Park on the outskirt of the town.


HELSTON MUSEUM is one of the largest museums in the South West, hosting a massive collection of exhibitions arranged carefully


Cornwall’s famous Poldark Tin Mine is celebrating 40 years of public underground tours


over two floors and five separate halls. From the narrow frontage, protected by cannon from the HMS Anson, the building opens up and extends back to provide a fascinating understanding yesteryear.


Te nearby village of Wendron is home to POLDARK MINE.


POLDARK MINE is the only complete underground mine open to the public in Cornwall and Devon. Described as a ‘Jewel in the Crown of the Cornish Mining


World Heritage Site’ the mine tour gives a unique insight into working conditions in 18th and early 19th century tin mines and into Cornwall’s geology. Te museum exhibits and interprets the fascinating story of the Cornish miners. Poldark offers something of interest to people of all ages.


Travelling toward Penzance, The Lion and Lamb in the village of Ashton on the A394 is an award winning family-run pub with a wide range of food.
