6 News EMERGENCY Services were


called to Pembroke on Monday afternoon (Feb 6) after a fire broke out at a property in Main Street. The fire had been caused by an


unattended cooker but no injuries were reported by the Wales Ambulance Service. A spokesperson for Mid and West


Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “On Monday, February 6, at 13:42pm, crews from Tenby and Pembroke Dock were called to a fire at a property in Main Street, Pembroke Dock. “Smoke was issuing from an


unattended cooker in a third floor flat. The Police Service isolated the cooker prior to the arrival of the Fire Service and naturally ventilated the property. “The Fire Service left the incident


at 14:02pm.” A YOUNG driver from Neyland


has been disqualified from driving for 20 months after he crashed into a parked car while drunk. On Tuesday (Feb 7), 19-year-old


Jay Johnstone of High Street attended Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court to plead guilty to drink driving. Prosecuting, Sian Vaughan


informed the court that a witness heard a loud bang coming from outside their Honeyborough property on January 22. When the witness went outside, they


found that there was damage caused to a parked car and noticed two males walking around the area. The police were contacted and when

THE PEMBROKESHIRE Coast National Park Authority is consulting on its draft Corporate Plan for 2017/18, which sets out its main work programme and projects for the coming year. The Well-


being of Future Generations Act 2015 places a duty on the Authority to set out its Well- being Objectives and to demonstrate how these


contribute to the seven Well-being Goals set out in the Act. The Corporate Plan, which


is also intended to be the Annual Improvement Plan, sets out the these objectives and explains how the Authority’s work will contribute to the objectives. The Well-being Objectives are: - To encourage and support


the development of sustainable employment and businesses, particularly in tourism and recreation. - To improve the health of the National Park’s ecosystems - To enable and encourage more


people to improve their well-being by making a greater use of the National Park regardless of their circumstances - To continue to ensure equality


is embedded within the work and culture of the National Park Authority. -To work alongside communities


to help them make the most of the National Park Authority. - To protect and promote the


local culture of language, arts and heritage of the area. - To ensure our work makes a


positive contribution to global well- being. The draft plan is available from


the Authority’s website (www. pembrokeshirecoast.wales) and hard copies are available to view at the Park Authority’s headquarters in Pembroke Dock. The Authority is now consulting

damage caused to Johnstone’s car and he admitted that he’d crashed and panicked because he had been drinking. Defending Johnstone, Mike


Kelleher said that his client has no idea ‘why on earth’ he was drink driving that night. Usually, Mr Kelleher told the court,


Johnstone walks or arranges alternative transport when he drinks. He added that the defendant – a


student who also has a part-time job – has never been in trouble with the court before. Mr Kelleher stated that with no


way of getting to his job, he will lose employment as a result of the driving ban.

 AN EXTREMELY apologetic


man attended Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court this week after it was revealed that he had failed to notify Pembrokeshire County Council about a change in circumstance affecting his entitlement to Housing Benefit. Haydn James Morgan, 58, of


Garfield Gardens admitted that he failed to notify the Council that he was working while he received Housing Benefit. Sian Vaughan, prosecuting,


stated that Morgan had only been declaring his wife’s income to the Council while employed by an ice- cream company. He received an overpayment of


£4,194.64 between March 25, 2013 and May 1, 2016, the court heard. Defending himself, Morgan


said that he was ‘very sorry for what happened’, stating that he had ‘overlooked’ it after he had a stroke. He had been off work for a long


time and did not know if he would keep his job when he started it. He apologised profusely and explained that he had simply forgotten to notify the Council. The court heard that Morgan


was repaying Pembrokeshire County Council £50 per month. Magistrates fined the defendant


£80 and ordered him to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £20 victim surcharge.


 POLICE are appealing for


vigilance in Pembrokeshire farming communities after reports that a number of dead badgers had been found. A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys


Police said: “We are appealing for vigilance after receiving a report that a number of dead badgers had been found by a farmer on his land in the Treffgarne area of Haverfordwest and that badger setts have been disturbed.


“This is believed to have happened over several months. “Police are keen to hear from


anyone who has seen any suspicious activity or vehicles, particularly near to known badger setts. “Anyone with information


that could help the investigation, or anyone who suspects someone of taking part in the activity, is asked to contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
