POLICE are investigating the

death of a 14-year-old girl from Milford Haven, who died suddenly on Tuesday night (Feb 7). It was confirmed that the death

of the teenager, named locally as Megan Evans was not being treated as suspicious. Along with the Welsh Ambulance

Service, Dyfed-Powys Police were called to an address in Skomer Drive just after 10pm. Two ambulances attended the

address, along with a team of fire service co-responders, and the girl was taken to Withybush Hospital. Specialist police officers are

currently supporting the young girl’s family and her peers at school. A spokesperson for Milford Haven

School, where the girl attended, said: “Milford Haven School is sad to report the tragic death of a 14-year-old girl from Milford Haven. “The whole school community has

been devastated by this terrible news. Our thoughts and sympathies are very much with the family at this moment. “We are providing appropriate

support and counselling at what is a very difficult time for everyone.” A spokesperson from Dyfed-

Powys Police said: “Dyfed Powys police is investigating the sudden death of a 14-year-old girl in the Milford Haven area. “Police received a report of the

incident at 10.08pm on Tuesday, February 7. “There are no suspicious circumstances. Next of kin and HM Coroner have been informed.” A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We were called at about 10.05pm on Tuesday 7 February to a private address on Skomer Drive, Milford Haven. “We sent two crews in emergency

ambulances and a team of fire service co-responders to the scene and a female was taken to Withybush General Hospital."

abi.moore@herald.email A TOWN RESPONDS Megan's tragic death has provoked

an outcry from the whole community about the impact of bullying on children. Taking place during Children’s

Mental Health Week, many residents of the town have taken to social media to express their condolences to the Milford Haven School student’s family as well as their dismay due to the circumstances. Updating their profile pictures

with a frame from PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Centre that states ‘Together Against Bullying’, many members of the community have been united in the discussion of how bullying should be dealt with within the school system. Stephanie ‘Clark’ Kersey, who

altered her profile pictured to include the frame on Wednesday, said: “My heart goes out to a grieving family who are living through a terrible tragedy and to the people of Milford Haven my hometown who are all devastated by what has just happened. Bullies everywhere young and old need to stop this craziness please!” Collin Sharp, Deputy Mayor of

the town, has also altered his profile picture of himself and his partner, Guy Woodham, to include the message ‘Together Against Bullying.’ The deputy Mayor replied to

a comment on the image by Cheyl Olley saying: “What can we do as a community, Colin, to stop another tragedy like hers, a poor girl taking her own life because of bullying; I'm furious for Milford's kids having to endure this!” Pete John reached out to Children’s

Mental Health Week with a hashtag in his status, saying: “I find it so hard to grasp how hard it is to get emotional support for children. Emotional kids so often get treated as being a "nuisance", or "naughty", and find themselves pushed aside when what they really need is acceptance and support. “Milford Haven is hurting for the

loss of a 14-year-old girl, who by all accounts has taken her life after being the victim of a bullying campaign. “It really is time that professionals

around children ease off the push towards compliance and academic achievement. We need to open our eyes and to listen to children, and all those around us and start caring more. The cost is too great. #ChildrensMentalHealthWeek” Children’s Mental Health Week,

taking place from February 6-12, aims to encourage everyone, adults

and children alike to spread a little kindness. Sam Swan, a past student of

Milford Haven School, said: “Why does it always take someone losing their life for action to be taken? Why when another parent approaches you do you not listen and constantly pass it off as usual teenage behaviour? Action against bullying MUST be taken! Bullying should be a serious criminal offence, Milford Haven School - please step up your anti-bullying rules. Rest in peace. Justice will be served and prevention will be taken before something so terrible happens again!” With hundreds of Milford Haven

citizens altering their profile pictures to include the frame, and many more joining the debate on anti-bullying programs within the school system, it is clear that the whole community has been shaken by the recent tragedy having taken to social media to express their distress.

POLICE WARNING Yesterday (Feb 9), following an

unconnected incident, South Wales Police warned people to consider the impact of social media messages following the death of another 14-year- old schoolgirl, this time in Swansea. Bishop Gore School student Nyah

James was discovered on Monday (Feb 6) at an address in the Blaenymaes area of the city. She was described as a 'beautiful

vibrant' child with her whole life ahead of her by her family. Police told The Herald that action

will be taken against those 'who post messages that are abusive, threatening or insulting.' "We would urge young people to

be responsible when posting online and think about the consequences of your

messages and how they may impact on others," said a force spokesperson. Officers are continuing to

investigate her death, and renewed an appeal for anyone with information about the teenager to contact them.
